The aroma is fruity and malty. Alcohol notes come through together with raisins. The taste is fruity and malty also. Very smooth and mellow, tasting stronger than it is. Nice. madquacker (724), Canberra ACT, Australia

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 21, 2006 Bottle. Warm copper with a modest cap of light tan foam. Taught dried apricots, floral, a touch of yeasty bread. a seamless blend of leathery dried fruit and a slightly chewy breadiness. Dry initially--just a touch of lingering sweetness. To my tastes, this seems like a session strength version of a great English-style barleywine that embodies a lot of the interest of the stronger style, while remaining quite delicate and drinkable. Medium to light palate, but full of flavor and interest. The yeast character of this beer is really interesting. I’d love to try homebrewing with this strain. Having now tried Old Hookey cask and bottle, I like the bottle better. (Heresy, I know.)

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 15, 2007 The color is extremely beautiful like liquid red amber. The head is moderate but gives nice lacing. The aroma is hoppy and malty with notes of caramel. The mouthfeel is smooth and the flavour has complexity with notes of sweetness, fruit, caramel and licorice-soft roasted malt. The finish is moderate but sufficiently bitter. It’s a very well balanced beer, and with it’s low ABV it has a fantastic full body. Well done! hughie (3076), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England

Hook Norton is a great beer place to visit. The colour is attractive, as is the white head. Excellent balance between the initial sweet, caramel flavour and the solid bitter finish. kempicus (350), Wellington, New Zealand
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 31, 2008 Pours a burnished gold with a small white head, this bottle has a very slight skunk to it but is pleasurable none the less. Very malty sweet beer with flavours reminiscent of crystallised strawberries, toffee and Dundee cake. joe19612 (701), camberley, Surrey, England

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 17/20 | Jul 2, 2009 Pours a slighty cloudy dark amber, with a nice one-finger head. No lacing. Aroma is fruity (raisins, cherry), with a touch of nut. Flavor is simlar (fruit and nut) with a touch of caramel, and suprisingly a slight alcohol warmth. Very well balanced beer. Palate is a bit thin and watery with a slightly dry finish. Overall I found this to be a very drinkable brew. I certainly wasn’t expecting to like it nearly as much as I did.
