Aroma is roast coffee, dark chocolate and a fine rich malt for days! Black as coal, tiny cappuccino head. Flavour is roasted, nearly burnt malt, oatmeal, coffee and treacle, yum. Medium bodied, wonderfully balanced, sour/sweet, beautifully dry. Terrific!
mabel (1662), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 8, 2008 [1402-20080530] Tap. Alcoholic water aroma kind of smells like sugary bathroom cleaner or "freshly washed hands." Hazy, dark brown red body with a small quick tan head. Clean flat and woodeny dry malt flavour. Medium body. Interesting but in a strange way; was expecting more maple sweetness.

Apparence: La couleur est noire opaque. Présence d’un mince col beige mousseux et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût de café légèrement sucré et de chocolat. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement huileuse. Faible effervescence en bouche. Arrière goût légèrement piquant en gorge (?). The look: Black body with a small tan ring
In long: Nose of maple and old black coffee. Taste of fudge cake with mapple syrup and some black coffee. Grainy highly roasted malts with a distant roasted nuts flavour. Some tree bark in the finish. Lots of maple but well integrated maple flavours, unlike many maple beers the beer didn’t feel like a porter with added maple syrup. Very cohesive. But most impressive is how this strong mapple syrup porter didn’t feel dry. I’ve got a big problem with unbalanced sweet beers and this was surprisingly dry. Quite unusual for this type of beer. Those guys know how to brew good beers. They probably know how to brew bad beers too, everybody do, but they just don’t do it. MJ_GG (179), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 7, 2008 Verre de 4 oz, d’un fût, à la brasserie. Arômes de torréfaction et de fumée. Robe noire opaque, légère mousse. Plutôt mince en bouche, le malt torréfié est bien accompagné par la touche légèrement fumée et sucrée de l’érable. La finale est plutôt amère et laisse paraître des notes de café.
