| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 2, 2009 In short: A good chewy rye cake in a pint (but not much of an IPA)
How: Tap at Vices & Versa, Montreal
The look: Cloudy dark orange body topped by a medium beige head
In long: Nose is floral with a lot of rye. Body is full and nourishing with a chewy mouthfeel. Yeasty, cake malts, taste of toasted rye bread, berries and some other red fruits, red apples. Low sweetness sensation, I like that. After taste is mostly rye. This is not refreshing juicy rye like classics of the style (Terrapin Rye Squared, etc.), this one is more like a chewy rye cake. Nothing special here but if like me you like rye beer you will like it, just don’t expect an IPA. This is a recent beer from a very small brewery so there will be differences between batches but the batch I had wasn’t much of an IPA. I think they used three letters to many to describe this beer just like my coworkers say I use two letters too many when I say I am a real asset.

Very hazy light gold with a small white head (3-). Floral and dryly spicy aroma, to my nose more of a saison. The taste was even more saison-like: pungently floral, dry, spicy, sort of sweet apple in the background, grassy pils bitterness around the edges. Light of body, very lively mouthfeel, enough spiciness to leave a dry, almost astringent afterimpression - NOT an IPA, but as a light, fruity, non-funky saison, yessir I wantmoresir. rederic (1815), montréal, Quebec, Canada

Some hops but not that much. Taste is hints of mango, grain. A bit bitter but not much. Not bad but quite simple and unidimensional. lefossoyeur (70), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Sep 3, 2009 Pours a hazy galden with a lightning gone white head. Nose is !!! Strange to say the least. Smell of bacteria and apples. No hops at all and barely something reminiscent of rye. Palate reveals what the nose said : Brettanomyces in serious quantities. Expecting some bitterness and hops this beer is a total flaw to me. Old sample? Most probably...

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 17, 2009 Draught at Vices & Versa, Montréal, QC. Pours a cloudy gold with an average size diminishing white head. Mild but pleasant aroma is herbal along with spices and fruity hops. Flavour: It tastes like a Hopfenstark beer, as in it smells and taste a little bit Saison-ey. Not as hoppy as I’d like in an IPA but it’s still a nice beer. philippem (53), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 31, 2009 En fût: Robe cuivrée trouble. Houblon fruitée et résineux. Amertume moyenne. J’avais l’impression d’une bière « épaisse », caractère bien rendu par le seigle j’imagine ? Très raffraîchissante. JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

There is a bit of herbal character on the top. I don’t get a whole lot of rye character on the nose, but flavour-wise it’s quite prominent. Softly herbal and spicy with a soft bitterness. It’s pretty nice, really.
