Time to catch up before BCTC. Bottle at PilsnerPeter’s Spring Throwdown. Thank to everyone who brought great beer and ribs and pickles and everything! Black with ring. Chocolate woody bourbon aroma. RICH woody mild bourbon bittersweet dark chocolate. Rich smooth clean and dry. Awesome.

Absolutely tremendous, even managed to finish off an entire bomber by myself. Lovely notes of vanilla and chocolate with a subdued bourbon sting throughout. Just a bit sweeter than I would want, hurting the drinkability just a bit.

(bottle shared by tytoanderso, thanks Tyler!) Pours black with absolutely no head. The aroma is downright bizarre. It begins somewhat fishy, with some roasted malt, light cherry, ample alcohol, and some bourbon as well. The other scents were ok, but I couldn’t get past that fish scent. The flavors are really restrained here as well, with some light chocolate, light bourbon, and roasted malt that carries on towards the finish. Mouthfeel is very thin compared to regular BORIS, and the carbonation is minimal. This must have been a bad bottle, as it’s a shell of what BORIS is.

batch 1 from kan! pours black with tan head just around the rim. nose is ashy, dark fruit, chooclate, and booze. flavors of chocolate, dark fruit, espresso, oak, vanilla, resulting in a long finish. tasty stuff.

Batch 1 - Thanks shawnm213! - Pours thick, dark and heavy with a small, quickly dissipating tan head...aroma is bitter cocoa malt, vanilla oak and some bourbon heat...flavour is sweet cream immediately, and leads into a dark, rich chocolate...tiny but plentiful bubbles add just the right amount of carbonation, the barrel is subtle and complimentary rather than overkill, with a charred wood bitterness that lingers...nicely warming, if not a bit sweet...

Thanks to xmarcnolanx for sharing this well made impy stout. Pours very dark with a burnt orange / brown head. The aroma has creamy dark chocolate, roasted malt, some oak, light whiskey and a hint of vanilla. Thick creamy body with lots of soft carbonation. The taste starts with smooth creamy roasted malt with only slight bitterness, vanilla, cream and just a bit of the whiskey barrel aging to let you know its there. The finish is creamy and lingering with an alcohol presence that is very pleasing and has no burn. Very well made impy stout.

Bottle. Shared with jarspag, Simon and Katie at the 6/27/09 D-METAL tasting in Del Mar. Pours pitch black with an oily texture with a small dark brown head, developing thin lace. Aroma is a pleasant blend of pancake batter, loaded with chocolate chip, chocolate fudge and Oreo cookie, followed up by warming alcohol. Bourbon and oak is a bit subdued here. Awesome flavor, packed with dark chocolate and anise. I had a difficult time discerning the difference here between the regular BORIS and this brew. Bourbon and oak barrel seems non-existent throughout the entire experience. Kind of a letdown. Thick, chewy body with a creamy feeling left on the palate. Still an awesome stout overall, but with the bourbon understated, it loses the points.
