Moderate burnt roast and some light alcohol notes on the aroma, a light raisin tone also. Taste is slightly sweet with some small alcohol heat, chocolate cookie, roast, coffee. Balanced but doesn’t display much of the barrel aging.

Pours out ink black topped with a tan head. Aroma was great lots of vanilla, sweet chocolat, dark roast, and rich malts. Taste was just as nice as the aroma more of the swettness and vanilla. O so good. jsquire (2107), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Nov 30, 2009 Dark beer with faint hues of magogany when held against the light. Thin brown head. Blooming bourbon barrel nose with thick brown sugar, rich chocolate and sweet alcohol. Great oily mouthfeel. Complex and balanced flavors of bitter chocolate, sweetened coffee, molassess, vanilla and bourbon. This is an excellent barrel enhanced beer. GG (1640), NorCal, California, USA

Clearly a fantastic imperial stout that whomever has access to this or the non-barrell version is EXTREMELY lucky. The beer glugs out of the bottle a jet black body, zero light getting thru this one with a smaller sized dark brown head. Aroma is coffee, toffee, molassess and a nice display of bouron. Chocolate, coffee, bourbon/vanilla and some oak are all blended extremely well. Very nice, but I think I enjoyed the non-barrell aged version better. Daytonbeer (15), Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 19/20 | Nov 28, 2009 I had a Thirsty Dog Siberian Night earlier today. I said that it was the second best thing that has come out of Akron, after Lebron. I was wrong. This BORIS beer is the second best thing from Akron. Pour is jet black. Aroma of roasted malts, bourban, and carmel. Creamy texture, goes down like butter. Taste of scotch, malt, and maple syrup. A special beer. Jblauvs (575), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 28, 2009 Black as night pour, 1 finger tan head. Dark fruit, sweet chocolate, coffee and sweet vanilla. Subtle oat deliciousness reinforces this robust barrel aged version of one of my favorites. Flavor is a little hot with creamy chocolate and vanilla whiskey overtones. FlssmrBrewAlum (1138), Lisle, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 28, 2009 22 oz bottle from RCL or DrHomolka. Batch 1, thanks guys! Pours a pitch black thick pour, very small dark brown head that dies to a film, clings to the edges. Thick and opaque. Aromas are sweet, oatmeal and roasted malts, creamy and dark chocolate combine underneath. A decent bourbon wet wood element, vanilla and alcohol, a bit of coffee underneath. Initial is pretty thick, sweet and roasty, dark chocolate, bourbon and wet wood, roasty ash and coffee, a nice full feel, the beer lingers very well on the palate, very roasty and bourbon underneath as the sweetness comes in well. Certainly, I can say the barrel aging did not thin this beer out as much as it could have. The bouron, while not overpowering or dominant, compliments the beer well, giving good flavors, but not taking precedence. Finish is roasty, vanilla, and barrel and smoke towards the backend. A very well constructed brew. Perhaps my only qualm was a bit too sweet. fata2683 (877), Panama City, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 28, 2009 bottle, thanks to BS! Pours thick black with a medium dark brown head with spotted lacing. Aroma is bourbon, maple syrup, some coffee, and vanilla with light oak. Wow, this is almost night and day with the original to me. Strong roasted malt and creamy oats, lots of bourbon and vanilla with some bakers chocolate and a slight dark fruit in the finish. This one is extremely creamy in the mouth, very nice silky feel. Awesome, just awesome! ricke (240), Malme, Sweden

Pitch black with a small beige head that settles quickly and leaves small lacings.
The smell is of roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, bourbon and oak. Hints of molasses and licorice. The smell is rich and deep. The bourbon character is subtle but more prominent than I had expected.
The taste is very round, rich and full. Lots of smooth roasted malts, molasses and vanilla. Hints of chocolate and caramel. The taste is very sweet due to the massive malts and bourbon. The finish is bitter with warming bourbon flavors and some alcohol.
Full-bodied, creamy and smooth.
Although the bourbon character was more restrained in this one compared to some of the bourbon bombs out there, I thought the bourbon aromas were surprisingly prominent in it, yet very well integrated. All in all, it was balanced and complex and very pleasant as a sipper. I had it directly after the standard version of Boris the Crusher, and I must say the barrel aging seriously changed the character of it. Although I really enjoyed BA Boris, and was really impressed by the subtle bourbon character is showcased, I do believe I enjoyed the regular version more.
