| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | May 18, 2009 Bottle purchased at the brewery. Pours pitch black with a thin tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma has vanilla, oak, bourbon, and some dark roasted malt. Has a medium creamy mouthfeel. Flavor follows the nose and has a complex array of notes. Chocolate, coffee, bourbon, vanilla, wood, alcohol, and provides a nice warming feeling as you drink it. I really like this beer. It has a nice meld of the best qualities of the original BORIS and has some added complexity and flavor by having the barrel added. If you like a barrel aged stout then this is a beer for you. Just top quality. Nice job Fred! It has big flavor, with a strong coffee, chocolate milk, and whiskey favor. It is very thick. The aroma is very strong with coffee. It is jet back with almost no head. | 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jul 7, 2009 Rating #100 for the beer and #800 for me. 22oz bottle of batch 2. Pitch black pour with a thin light brown head. Chocolate nose with vanilla and oak and a hint of booze. Whiskey flavor up front with oaky vanilla. Coffee follows next, makes room for chocolate, then shows up again for the finish. Barrel-aging well executed. Not overdone. Made an amazing beer even better. | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Apr 3, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark and thick brown with a nice tan head that rises even after the pouring has stopped. Aromas are thick with sweet, dark malt, chocolate, vanilla, a little bit of a bourbon edge and some dark fruit that hides behind the larger ticket items. Flavor is damn good. It is a lot like the original Boris with a bit more of an alcohol and smokey edge to it, which highlights some of its best qualities. You’d be hard pressed to find a better one....
