Commercial Description:
Our IPA and Stout converge for a really great flavor combination to create a rich and robust black & tan. The assertive hoppy character of our Hoppin to Heaven IPA is perfectly complimented by the intense deep roasted flavor of our BORIS Oatmeal Imperial Stout. Two great tastes that taste even better together.

Pours black with almost no head. Aroma of chocolate from stout, but a decent amount of citrus hops from the IPA. For having less % of Stout in there, it holds it own. Although interesting and worth a shot, I think I would rather just drink a aggressively hopped stout outright.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color, almost opague. Apple, plums, red berries ad a hint of roast in the aroma. Initial roast in the flavor, followed by oily hops, red berries and plums. Delicious beer, but lacking in balance.

Bottle from Brooklyn. Dark brown with tan head. Nose of chocolate and lots of vanilla. Starts out hoppy, then somewhat watery before going deep malt and chocolate. Dry and sweet finish. Very well done.

Pours dark brown with light brown head. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and grapefruit. It tastes like a hoppy stout. Roasty with chocate, coffee, citrus and hoppy bitterness. Medium to full body with above average carbonation and a slick mouthfeel. Very nice.

Bottle@Home. Lightly spiced aroma, clove? Ruby colour, light brown head, good lace. Sweet, bitter, chocolate, hint of coffee, roasted bitter finish, lightly spiced. Medium body. Nice.

very dark brown pour, nice thick and fine tan head. sweet aroma, resin-y hops and chocolate milk; the combination smells like twizzlers somehow. flavor is also a bit odd, starts off as a sweet roasty stout but continues and ends as a well-balanced bittersweet hops-dipped-in-chocolate sort of thing. this is good and interesting. nice medium oily body and slightly high carbonation to keep it refreshing.

A dark cola pour with tan head from the 22oz. bottle: Flavors of burnt coffee beans surrounded by bitter, dark chocolate, toffee hard candy, caramel, hazelnuts, oatmeal, vanilla, and whole milk that’s been sitting on the counter for a while (not in a bad way). Adding IPA to BORIS brings to it a dimension of pine bitterness that completely satisfies my taste. Drinkability: Bomber. Rebuy: Right away. #238 on 05122009, DG.

Pours a brown almost opaque color. Slight mocha head with just a faint nose. Smells of roast and hops. Taste is great! The beer doesn’t "settle out" like a draft black and tan, but this is quite good. Tastes of nice roast with a very strong (for a stout) hop flavor in the after taste. Sweet and light and finishes well. Very good beer.

Though not what you may think a Black and Tan should be, the floral hop aroma and roasted malt combine wonderfully for the nose and palate. A dark chocolate color and brownish head are indicators of a stout, but the 2/3 IPA creates great balance. While it could have been just a bit thicker, it isn’t watery by any means. An easy drinker.
