This beer was received from BA alleykatking as part of BIF Race 2009. I chose a Duvel Tulip for pouring this into, and the beer was a little bit more carbonated than I had anticipated, which resulted in some fizzy noise, and a two finger thick head atop the pitch black body. The smell was sweet and malty with not a lot of coffee or roast grains. The taste followed the smell closely as well, with berry like sweetness and alcohol warmth, and not a lot of astringency. I liked how the oats added smoothness to the mouthfeel. This was possibly one of the most approachable RIS style beers I have sampled, that was not dumbed down for the sake of drinkability. Good stuff.

Dec 19, 2009 Very dark brown color. Oatmeal, fudge and dark fruit pour out of the nose. Very intense, dark fruit, dark chocolate fudge, and oatmeal grab your palate and severely beat it. Stil, remains balanced. Huge chocolatey oatmeal finish. Yummy. Not too sweet. Not too bitter, just focuses on chocolate and oatmeal.

Dec 17, 2009 2007 bottle. Pours thick black with thin dark brown crown, smells of thick chocolate and oatmeal with some sweet toffee. Taste is amazing warmed up, thick on the tongue because of the oatmeal with bitter chocolates and sweet coffee and molasses round it out. Excellent!

Dec 17, 2009 Bottle. Almost black liquid with a creamy, tan head. Aroma is sweet and roasted, a bit sooty with notes of vegetables. Taste is sweet, malty, heavily rosted and a bit sooty. Some hints of cucumber and old salad. Thick mouthfeel. Really nice.

Vätskan kunde haft lite bättre skumtopp, men f-n man ska ju dricka grejerna… inte sitta och titta på dom.
Doften får mig att tänka på en annan yankare, Rogue Chocklad Stout, och känns nästan som om glaset innehåller ren, flytande chocklad.

Dec 13, 2009 Bomber from Whole Foods (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark cola brown to black with one finger tan head. Aroma is sweet and roasty wtih notes of chocolate, toffee, caramel, coffee, brown sugar, some hints of honey and molasses. Flavor is sweet and roasty with notes of coffee, chocolate, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, light spice. Medium to full body with a pleasing chocolate, roasted malt finish.

Pours almost black, very thin brownish head.
Lovely aroma with coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, nuts, red berries.
Soft mouthfeel, biscuits, coffee, chocolate, raisins, caramel, roasted malt. Full body and low carbonation. Nicely balanced and very pleasant to drink. Long sweet aftertaste.

Nov 28, 2009 bottle, thanks to muckjoe! Pours a motor oil thick black with a medium dark tan head. Nice roasted coffee and oats in the nose. Nice roasted malt and chocolate flavors mixing with some nutty notes and a slight smoke in the finish. Really nice and drinkable. The mouth is fairly creamy with small hints of carbonation.
