Taverner (473), San Ramon, California, USA Jun 24, 2008 Bomber courtesy of LeopoldStoch - THANKS! Pours darker than most double IPA’s. The dark amber hue to this beer betrays a strong, dark malt profile which I think distracts from what is otherwise a beautiful floral hop bouquet. Nose is hops and darker malt. Having said that, this is a delicious beer. Definitely one of the best Midwestern IPA’s I’ve had - and that’s comparing it to FFF, Goose Island and Surly!
larsniclas (3029), Gothenburg, Sweden Oct 5, 2008 Bottled at 3 små rum.
Dark ruby-red.
Extreme amounts of sweet, grassy, hay-ish hops.
Fruity and perfume-ish flavour.
Smooth mouthfeel with igh bitterness. sayravai (3181), Helsinki, Finland Oct 5, 2008 (Bottled, 0.65l) Hazy, nicely red-brown color with a medium, firm and lacy head. Delicious, fresh and exotic-fruity, aromatic-hoppy nose. Extremely hoppy, superbly fruity flavor with lots of backing maltiness, but remains dryish overall. Quite similar to Nørrebro North Bridge Extreme, but slightly more hop-accented. Medium to full body with soft carbonation. A superb Double IPA with great balance, yet enough hops to satisfy a serious hophead. Dangerously easy to drink, too, and with not too much alcohol. gnoff (2825), Göteborg, Sweden Sep 28, 2008 (Bottle at Café 3 Små Rum, Göteborg) On September 27, 2008 Clear copper color, tan head. Lemon, citrus, grape, pineapple, fruity, hoppy scent. Smooth, bitter, hoppy, citrus, malty, sweet, alcohol taste. Smooth mouthfeel, high bitterness. Dry. Very very nice. petermadsen (336), Vesterbronxxx, Denmark Sep 27, 2008 Hops in huge amounts dominates this beer. From the first, fresh and hypnotizing smell to the heavy, oily hop flavour with its loads of citrus, grass, lychee and pepper to the distinct bitterness it’s all about hops. The whole thing is balanced by the caramel malt.
This is about as hoppy as it gets! AndrewKScott (399), Lemont, Illinois, USA Sep 26, 2008 Pours a deep amber with an off-white head. Grassy, citrus aroma. Flavor has an interesting, fruity hop profile, with melon, subtle grapefruit. The hops are more flavorful than sharp, which is pleasant. Mouthfeel is sticky and full. With a fruity hoppy finish. This is a solid example of a double ipa.
