Popping the cap revealed a bit of a gusher in the 22 oz. bomber, but when poured, the carbonation was reasonably in check and the head was about three finger thick. The body was very cloudy, burnt umber, and quite opaque when held up to the light, which was a very unusual trait for the style. The aroma was like raw pine resin and very nose singeing, which is the way I like my Double IPAs. The taste was bitter up front with a metallic tinge, surprised with the intense caramel malts evident as a very hefty backbone, and displayed a long earthy finish. The beer felt thicker than average in the mouth with a creaminess imparted by the yeast. I picked this up at Green’s in Columbia, SC, during a recent visit, and it did not disappoint.

Thanks to LambTaco from Reddit. Very good, super hoppy DIPA. My only criticism of this beer is that there is so much hop bitterness that it loses a bit of the more delicate hop flavors when you drink it. These more delicate notes are present, so it’s not just a bitter hop bomb, but they’re a bit overpowered, particularly in the finish. The hop aroma is citric and floral with neither note really dominating. It’s a very strong aroma. There’s a little bit of paint thinner astringency and rubbing alcohol harshness around the edges. The flavor is very bitter and, I think, dry. It’s hard to taste anything but the hops and since I can’t appreciate any malt sweetness, I’m assuming its dry. The beer is mildly difficult to drink but in a good way - well, good if you love hops, but if you don’t love hops, you’re drinking the wrong beer. The beer is darker than it really needs to be, not like you can really taste the crystal malt Although MM utilizes different hop strains, it reminds me of a lesser known beer, Iron Springs Casey Jones, another completely over-the-top hop bomb. Good stuff.

Bomber. Pours a crystalline, ferric orange with huge peachy beige head and long lasting sticky lacing. The aroma is tangerine, grapefruit, fresh Clementine orange, some floral notes, rose hips, and a very light honeyish sweetness. The flavor is a slightly tannic caramel with nice, strong, fresh hops. Grapefruit, peach, and pine dominate the hop notes; there’s not as much sweet citrus as is present in the nose. There’s a slight lemony bitterness, but the hops mostly take on a resinous texture. Sticky pine sap ushers in the finish with another dose of grapefruit and some mild toast. It leaves a sticky, lingering taffy aftertaste. Quite tasty indeed.

Pours orangish color with thin off white head. Big grapefruit aroma. Slightly sweet malty flavor with lots of grapefruit rind bitterness. Medium Body with average carbonation and a resinous mouthfeel.

Amber to the colour. Smell of mango & orange. 168 IBU. Not my favourite style of beer.
