Pours a transparent copper amber with a thin ring of white head. Has a soft caramel malty nose with some grainy notes and a touch of peat. Starts with good malty fullness and some light caramel flavor with a touch of light fruits and earthy peat beFore a drier grainy finish. An ok Scotch ale, but could use more sweetness and complexity.

Nose is sweet and malty. Lots of caramel, some green apple, and fruity sugars. A hint of earth is in there underneath the sweetness, as well as a very light rye note that is lightly tangy/spicy. Pours red amber with light foam and lace. Sweet and sugary. Lots of caramel, some toast, apple. Lingering sweetness coats the palate. Tons of residual sugars in here. Light earthy spicy rye notes deep down. Too sweet for me to enjoy all the way. Medium carb. Almost syrupy.

Experienced from a 22oz bottle in a pub glass. The beer pours a medium to fairly deep amber color, with a moderate off-white head. The nose shows strong notes of English character malts. Caramel, toffee, and a touch of milk chocolate. Unfortunately, the palate is, to put it very mildly, a disappointment. The aforementioned flavors initially come to the fore, but they are followed by an absolute tidal wave of residual sweetness. Given the O.G. (1.086), and the beer’s abv (8.2), the beer had to have finished fermenting at an unbelievably high level. The level of sweetness leaves a cloying note on the palate of malt and a sort of caramelized sugar/maple syrup. It is tempting to just pour the beer, had it not ran $11. Overall, a pretty pathetic effort from a fairly widely distributed brewery.

Is a clear dark red color with almost no head. Way on the syrupy side. I typically like this style but this one is just not doing it for me due to all of the sweetness. After the sugar there is a bit of a red fruit and caramel malt flavor working in the background. The aroma is even filled with syrupy sweetness. If you want dessert, drink this beer.

Pours hazy amber color with thin beige head. Aromas of toasted malts, molasses and some alcohol. Flavor is pretty sweet and malty with some dark fruits and molasses. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel.

Clear light medium red amber color with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, dried fruity, candy, marzipan notes. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration, a dry finish. Body is medium to light, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. Bottle, had this last night with V and Julie while we were brewing our coffee stout. Very good scotch. Sweet and malty and tasty. yEAH.

bottle thanks to muckjoe! Pours, a murky dark red with a medium off white head. Sweet maple syrup and carmel aroma with lots of malt notes. Bold malt flavors with a peppery sweet carmel and toasted nutty character. Light spicing in the finish with som heat from the alcohol. Really nice lingering sweet finish that is hard to pin-point, close to big red soda? Maybe like a peppery almost minty sweet flavor. Either way, very nice scotch ale, I like it alot.
