CaptainCougar (4596), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 11, 2008 Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a thin-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel malt and chocolate covered cherries with a touch of roasty malts and raisins. Body starts with a toasty dark caramely maltiness and good roasty dark chocolate flavor. Finishes smooth and bittersweet with a good dark chocolate finish. A nice porter.
thegreenrooster (1432), St.louis, Missouri, USA Jul 4, 2008 Pour is a black with no head at all. Aroma is a decent coffee with some dark chocolate. Flavor is much of the same but it grew on me the more I drank of it. Lots of roasted dark malt with a nice bakers chocolate and a bit of crips hops. Fairly decent beer and much better at room temp than cold out of the fridge. michael-pollack (1290), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 1, 2008 22oz. Bottle: Aroma of coffee, cream, roasted malts, chocolate, dust, and a touch of piney hops. Poured very dark brown/black in color with a small brown head that disappeared. Opaque. No lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of candi sugar, chocolate, roasted malts, cream, and a touch of piney hops. Medium body. Thin texture. Soft carbonation. Sweet, sugary finish. redlem (1081), Illinois, USA Jun 27, 2008 First, seemed more of a stout than a porter. High amount of roasted coffee notes accompaniedwith the bitterness associated with coffee. The issue that sticks with me is I get no chocolate in this beer and that is what I use to differentiate stouts and porters. Still pours an opaque brown with a medium tan head. Aroma and taste are of bitter roasted malts. One dimensional and becomes boring. thedm (3405), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 27, 2008 This bottled brew from Indianapolis, IN poured a small sized head of foamy brown colored fine to large sized mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a nearly opaque dark ruby red brown colored body with no visible carbonation. The aroma was of simple dark malts. The mouth feel was creamy and smooth at the start with a slight tingle from start to finish. The flavor contained notes of dark malt mild chocolate with a hop prescience. NachlamSie (1304), Tennessee, USA Jun 26, 2008 bomber. Pours very dark with not much of a head. The aroma is very creamy with suggestions of milk chocolate, vanilla wafers, a bit of coffee, and chocolate-covered almonds. Flavor is much the same, it kind of reminds me of a sweeter English style porter but with a very full body. It’s nutty and chocolaty all around with a creamy finish that flirts with fruity tones. This is incredibly drinkable and hearty.
