Aroma of coffee, dark berries, and chocolate. Flavor contains a bit of bitterness from roasted malts and coffee, some sweeter notes from the dark fruit presence and some deep chocolate notes. Palate is very smooth and full with some slight stickiness. msante79 (341), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA Nov 28, 2008 Bomber. Pours dark brown with thick tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and chocolate with a little coffee. Flavor is mostly roasted malt and chocolate with some coffee at end to add some bitterness. Nice rich porter that finishes a little dry. Nice porter. Glouglouburp (2113), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 20, 2008 In short: A standard highly roasted American stout/porter. Slightly above average
How: Bottle 22oz, drank about 3 months after purchase
The look: Black body topped by an initially large tan head with medium retention
In long: Nose of roasted coffee beans, some smoke and charcoal. Taste is highly roasted, burnt dark malts held together by some tar. Milky black-chocolate (the low-cacao % kind), some black coffee and some molasses. Not much in the way of bitterness, finish is chocolaty roastiness. Some dark grapes as the beer warms up. A bit too sweet but the high roastiness level hides it pretty well and creates a light dryness sensation. Body is comfortably soft and full. Carbonation is relaxed. Overall this is a good beer. It’s highly roasted/burnt character makes it a bit rough around the edge so if this is their Silk Porter then their Robust Porter must grate the tonsils. grimreeser (756), Minnesota, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours black with a thinnest of thin dark tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, toffee. Light sweetness, enough hops to be noticed.
