Commercial Description:
Hoppys gift to those you like their beers malty. Dark Caramel and chocolate malts lend their deep crimson silkiness, and judicious additions of Nugget and Cascade hops give just enough bitterness for balance.

Stony Face Red Ale is a pretty clear red ale with a dense, splotchy, oily off-white head that has great retention and lacing. It has a bright, floral, spicy, wooden aroma. In the mouth, it’s smooth, creamy medium bodied beer with a crisp, dry finish. The flavor has really nice balance. The hops taste fresh and the malt tastes caramelly. It’s bold and simple. Good show.

From a big bomber that came from califor-eye-aye; big thanks to cquiroga for this collectable piece. Poured into a big glass mug. Cloudy maroon with a rocky alabaster head. Smell is just fresh and yeasty bearish. First taste is choco impression that immediately goes alky and then back to carob. Each swig provides that evolution of taste. Rather strong, let me check the alky; says 5.6% but it sure tastes much more potent than that, mor like 7%. Not sure if you would call this balanced, considering the bitter malt in there. Strong, with plenty of beer personality going on here. Not quite the carbonation that I have become used to in the other hoppy face beers. Finish is long lingering malt and alky bitter medicine. Tho not tremendously enjoyable in flavor, I did rather take pleasure in the opportunity to try this brew. Thanks Chris, I owe you ten! You are certainly a generous trader. Hoppy face stoney red. Bottle courtesy of bhensonb: Pours a transparent dark amber red with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet grainy caramel malts with a touch of piny hops. Starts with good fullness and a healthy amount of dark caramel sweetness, but could use more hoppiness before its bittersweet finish. A decent amber ale.

Bottle from CAH. Pours deep ruby with no turbididty and a clingy, off=white head. Nose is caramel malt, heavy hops. Tastes caramel malty, very hoppy, earthy, and a bit red grapey and winey, but mostly earthy, to the point where the chocolate malt tastes a bit like scotch malt. Starts and stays hoppy, but is not quite as balanced as the world class examples of this style.
