Not getting much hop, other than that fruitiness. Dark coppery color with a beige head that stays and laces a little. A bit thin. Starts with firm rich malt, with a quick break to stone fruit. The carbonation is reasonable. Towards the end roasted malt comes back firmly, and the finish is dry, malty, with a bit of hop . Pretty nice. hayduke (1679), Eureka, California, USA

Beautiful tint. The head was off-white and huge and long lasting with big bubbles that settled very slowly leaving lots of lacing. Overall a very attractive pour. Nose was very rich roasted malts, with aromas of fruit and caramel, and some floral hops. Mouthfeel very clean, and flavor is a perfect balance between roasted malts and hops. Finish medium and slightly bitter and good to the very last drop. It was pretty apparent this is not an American Pale Ale. According to the brewer it is an American-Style Amber/Red Ale, By any name, however, it is an excellent brew and I will purchase again the next time I get a chance. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 9, 2007 well hopped, like most HBC beers, as the name implies. Clear red with mostly diminishing off white head, a little fizzy. This bottle was a little watery, a little too thin bodied, but may have just been a bad case. riversideAK (2799), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jan 16, 2007 Nice dark amber color a nice velvetty head that lingered for a minute before fading. A nice roasty aroma with small hop presence. Flavor was similar to aroma with nice roasty caramel malt. It was less sweet than expected. It did have a nice hop presence at the end. A drinkable ale. My only complaint is that it was extremely watery. Oh well, what can you do. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

The body is dark orange/red/amber and holds a fluffy off white head comprised of a legion of fine bubbles. It sort of collapses slowly rather than diminishing.
<P>
The aroma holds a lot of sweet malt with caramel, raisin, sweet breads and faint chocolate notes making a play and some very faint, but sharp, hop notes.

Fore is caramel, chocolate, dry fruit notes, some light riasin notes and a faint hint of tobacco. I started this a tad on the warm side, but I think it benitited from it if anything. It’s very lightly hopped for a West Coast Pale Ale and manages to be pretty damn refreshing. Definitely my kind of pale ale....the malt is the main player and it’s almost into christmas beer/brown ale territory in that regard. Nice. dwyerpg (2553), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 17, 2006 Some caramel raisin notes in the aroma. Solid red color. The flavor is very soda-like at first, with thin sugary coating tendencies. It definitely has some hops near the end, but they are short-lived. A pretty good beer overall. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 4, 2006 Bottled. The body was dark red with a medium khaki colored head. The aroma was oranges with some chocolate. There was also flowers with light apples. The taste was chocolate with buckwheat pancakes. There was also a hint of almonds. Interesting. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 31, 2006 22oz bottle pours cloudy red witha short offwhite head that didn’t stay and doesn’t lace. Aromas of caramel and toasted malts with grassy hops. Flavor is caramel, grassy hops, toasted malt, a touch of raisin, and some orange on the finish. Medium bodied and lightly carbonated. Kind of goofy label but not too bad of beer actually.
