Commercial Description:
Total Eclipse Black Ale has been described as similar to a light, dry stout. Characterized by its distinctive hop aroma and rich, black color, Total Eclipse redefines the way you think about a dark ale. Brewed at a low temperature to create a refreshingly dry finish, Total Eclipse uses only the finest two row malted barley and hops grown in the great Pacific Northwest. This combination results in a clean, crisp, hand-crafted experience.

22 oz bottle from Holiday Wine CellarJet black with ruby tint and a medium light tan head. Aroma of black coffee and dark chocolate. Flavor is lightly burnt black coffee with some dark chocolate, a little smoke and a strong bitter coffee/bakers chocolate finish. Medium body is creamy with moderate carbonation.

Dark pour with no real head to speak of. Lightly roasty and sweet with a bit of a dry finish if I remember correctly. Not bad, nothing wrong with it - just not anything to write home about.

this bottle has been stuck in the back corner of my beer fridge for... a while. I think I got it in trade from Saarlander, thanks Aaron. a decent stout, but nothing to really separate it from all the others. pours a very dark brown without much head or lacing. flavor was roasty chocolate with a quick finish.

~Pours a very dark reddish black color with creamy off white head. ~Strong hop scent. Some smoked malts. Mild coffee and chocolate. ~Bitter coffee and burnt malt flavor, don’t care too much for the burnt malt. ~Medium creamy feel, bitter finish. ~ This is decent. Not my favorite.

Dark brown. Light chocolate aroma with a hint of fudge. Somewhat thin body with roast and chocolate. Vague nuttiness. Quick finish. I’d like a bit more residual sugar to round out the body and bring some of the roastier, more chocolatey notes to the fore.

Draught. Marks for Appearance are an average, as beer was sampled in weak artificial light after dark. Coffee and cream, and - sorry - vomit. Coffee, rather sweet (maybe after all those IPA’s...). But there’s definitely some retronasal sweetness, molasses. Medium bodied at best, quite carbonated. Aftertaste is burnt-bitterish. Ho-hum coffeestout.

This dark brown ale poured with a thin tan head. The malt flavor is flat and chalky, but fairly pleasant. One of the least hoppy beers from Hoppy Brewing.

Bomber. Poured clear medium-deep brown with an explosive cap of yellowy-beige head. The aroma picked up dusty detergenty notes on top of roasted sweeter chocolates, a touch of coffee, and some grassy notes. The flavor was more focused on the chocolate, with sweeter, oat-accented notes leading the way.. tacky caramel, pine, and coffee bitterness rode out the edges.. overtones of slightly sour detergent got in the way yet again, otherwise this would have been quite good. Medium-bodied with too much carbonation on the palate.. the back-end and finish were tacky.. sourness was odd and didn’t really help. This may have seen better days, but I don’t think that it was that old.
