Commercial Description:
Total Eclipse Black Ale has been described as similar to a light, dry stout. Characterized by its distinctive hop aroma and rich, black color, Total Eclipse redefines the way you think about a dark ale. Brewed at a low temperature to create a refreshingly dry finish, Total Eclipse uses only the finest two row malted barley and hops grown in the great Pacific Northwest. This combination results in a clean, crisp, hand-crafted experience.

A plaing malty aroma, but okay. A very dark red-black color. This is a nice beer. bit of hops and some bite, makes it very stout like. Good.

Dark brown ale with a thick moka head. Aroma is of cold coffee and light black olives (infection?). In mouth, a nice porter with nice burned toasts, notes of bitter chocolate, lingering burned bitterness in mouth. Medium bodied. Bottle bought at BevMo in Sacramento, CA, August 2005. One year old. Enjoyed with Jerked Ribs from Island Flava, Ottawa.

Black with a medium head. Roasted malt, chocolate and slightly salty licorice aroma. This one is all roasted malts, not much hop presence. Very smooth finish, too thin though. For only 5.6%, it packs in a good amount of taste. Worth trying!

Deep crimson in appearance with a fluffy, off-white head. Ashtray and liquor in the nose. Lots of licorice, burnt malt and unpleasant lemony hops. Barely serviceable.

Nice brew, especially for those where its a hot day so you don’t want the heavyness of a stout or porter, yet you really like the dark malt taste! Surprisingly white head for a black beer. Dark as sin in color. Totally black and even when I held it up to a lightbulb I couldn’t see ANY light through it. Very clean pallate. Doesn’t stay long after drinking. Would definately consider buying again!

Bottled. The body was black with a light brown colored head. The aroma was chocolate with lots of coffee. There was also anise and some pancake syrup. The taste was lots of dark chocolate with some fair amounts of espresso. There was also a hint of soybeans. The body was medium with a hint of soybeans. A nice beer.

22oz bottle from Santa! - Pours black with an very large rocky tan head that stays pretty well and laces the sides of the glass. Aromas of sweet chocolate, roasted malts, and some orange. Flavor is a good combination of the sweet chocolate flavor blended with the background of roasted malts and the orange/citrus hops at the finish. Fairly hoppy for a porter and definitely unique. Palate is smooth and creamy but there is plenty of carbonation in this as well. Enjoyable.

Aroma is a sweet and roasty combo of lightly roasted barley and citrus hops with a note of melted butter. Immaculate brown color with a thick and frothy head thats leaves a trail of mess down the glass. Slightly relaxed is the flavor with only mild undertones of roasted malt and a bittering hop bite unlike any dark ale i can remember of at the moment. Aftertaste is roasty and its almost like i just drank or ate something that was burnt over a bbq grill. Nice offering.
