The aroma is piney, sappy, grapefruit, and earthy yeast esters. The taste came off more balanced than the nose with sappy and resin hop working with some caramel and crystal malt. A bit earthy and peppery on the finish. The feel is lively and brash with some malt smoothness to help out. I like it and it works overall, not the big hop monster that I expected but it is not a wimp either. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Aroma is obviously hops and barley/grass. Taste is big, lots of hops, with the back of sweet malt. Good beer. Ungstrup (15376), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 19, 2005 An unclear red beer with a small disappearing head. The aroma is etremely hoppy leading towards grassyness. The flavor is sweet and very hoppy as well as grassy - so much, that it feels like it is scrathing the mouth while you drink it. bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 18, 2005 Draft. Nitro. I’m not a fan of nitro on big hoppy beers. It kills the aroma and mellows thf flavor, but... Very murky rich amber with a beige nitro head - murkiness never cleared up. Mellowed hop aroma. Creamy mouthfeel. Huge caramel flavor accentuated by the nitro. Also cocoa and backing hops (backing hops in a DIPA???). Not the hop monster on nitro, but surprisingly fuller mouthfeel. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA

A very malty balanced and complex double with barleywine pretentions. Not the pint for the faint of heart or the Fizzy yellow beer wussy drinkers, you know who you are. joshpiledean (227), Ames, Iowa, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 2, 2005 Nitro tap, O’Brien’s, San Diego. I think the nitro really added to this, making for a creamy punch of hops that went down very nice and smooth. The hops were a great citrusy treat, more aromatic than bitter, not that it isn’t worthy of being tagged a IIPA, err whatever. Gimme another! elnadeau (786), Laguna Niguel, California, USA

Good balance with a tasty array of fruit, perhaps some apricot to go with the citrus, hops in the back end are not overdone. Real good as it warmed, with the hops/alcohol bite taming down well. Good, real good.
