aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA Oct 10, 2006 Big hops and a small malt base make for a west coast Imperial of CRAZY dimensions. This is Daves first foray into the new non c hops and a wonderful brew it is. Piney resinous and very well balanced towards the hop end of the spectrum. smcd (366), USA Mar 16, 2006 (Draft). Who had this bottled???? This isn’t a bad beer. It is not my favorite of the Hoptown IIPAs ... its a little too thin ... a bit like drinking citric acid .... did I say that? Hazy. Amber. (just like the DUI). Almost harsh -- no, call that, "brisk" -- bitterness. " Thin". Unbalanced. Don’t know. Go back to the DUI! beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Feb 19, 2006 The Imperial IPA pours a light gold color from a hand bottled 22oz. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is citrusy and I swear smells more like fresh squeezed OJ. OK there is also some grapefruit and floral as well. A medium bodied Imperial IPA. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are citrusy and floral. Fairly bitter IPA. The flavors seem a little muddled, but a nice drinkable beer. Aroma is much better than the flavor. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is bitter. Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Feb 14, 2006 I thought it was called Huey and Louie but maybe I was mistaken. Hazy amber colour. Big fresh cantaloupey hop character. Wonderfully drinkable beer with a brisk bitterness and loads of melony, fruity hop notes. There is a bit of sweetness and late alcohol to provide balance and rounding. omhper (12155), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 14, 2006 Bottled. Hazy amber. Big aromas of grapefruit and apples jumps in your face. The hops leave a burning sensation in your mouth, fuelled even more by alcohol. There is not sufficient malt to carry all the hops and all the sweetness makes the finish rather cloying. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA Feb 9, 2006 Hand Bottled. Pours a murky-ish copper color with a white head. Big hoppy aromas leap out of the glass as you pour. Pine and grass are in there but the grapefruit aroma is unreal. This beer smells like grapefruit juice to me. Outstanding balance of hops and malt. Sweet but not too cloying. Clean, bitter finish. This is a great beer, whatever the name is... bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Jan 23, 2006 Draft Served on Nitro. Rich reddish amber with a creamy cream-colored nitro head. Rich caramel malt flavor with big tropical fruits (amarillo?). This is one of the most aromatic nitro beers I’ve ever had. Big fruity aroma(mango/apricot). Nice bitterness but could use a bit more lingering fruitiness.
