Commercial Description:
HopTown IPA, our flagship beer, has a rich, malty character, an alcohol content of 6.2% and a generous helping of hops (almost two pounds per barrel!). We use Galena hops for bittering and Cascade and Centennial hops for the finish and for dry hopping.

It’s good. Hits your palate fairly hard for a single IPA. I have to try their Imperial IPA. ON SECOND ANALYSIS: it’s actually really weak, since I’ve "schooled" myself on IPA’s. Decent floral IPA character, very lacking in the bittering hops. More sour than bitter.

Eighth sample Stone Anniversary Fest XI. Pours copper with a bright white ring. It has a light hop nose. Litter bit of hops in the taste not much, pretty poor.

22 ounce bottle purchased at the Davis Food Co-Op. Very fruity, orange, peach-like floral hop aromas are dominant. I also detects some husky tannin aromas along with a bit of ethanol retronasally. Pretty quaffable. Moderately hazy orange body with an off-yellowish head that is pretty small. Lightly astringent, citrus hopped start, which becomes grainy, a bit roasty, and cereal like in the middle. A nice nutty maltiness is present before a moderately bitter, hopped piney flavors to finish. Quite drinkable and well-balanced. Not a beer for the hard-core hop heads, but very enjoyable if you are someone who likes a drinkable, balanced IPA.

On tap at Stone. Clear golden amber with a fizzy white head. Decent grapefruit and pine aroma. Sweet orange taste, pine, slightly bitter finish.

Strong aroma of citrus hop. Slightly hazy light amber color with a firm beige head. Starts with citrus and floral, moderate carbonation, medium body. It goes a bit watery, and the malt is not overly strong. A very drinkable ale.

Orange-gold pour with a fluffy white head. Clean, hoppy, citrus aroma with some grass. The taste mirrors the aroma. The hops are prominent and taste fresh. Good malt back really compliments this beer.

Bottle sampled on 3/14/07: Pours a clear copper orange with a wispy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramely toffee malt with an earthy, green, grapefruity hoppiness. Body starts with a nice, rich malty sweetness with a good bittering hoppy balance. A smooth, drinkable brew.
