Commercial Description:
Hoptown Oatmeal Breakfast Stout is not your typical oatmeal stout. Rich with chocolate and roasted barley malts, and an aggressive yeast strain, combined with loads of rolled oats creates an oatmeal stout with a creamy texture and a dry, hoppy finish. Great with or without eggs, bacon, and toast. Enjoy.

Vintage 2005 Pours opaque black with a dense, thick, dark tan head. The batter-like foam rose to over an inch, and fell slowly to the surface. Remnants of clingy froth failed to stay on the walls of the glass, and only a trace of lacework remained as a result. Aromatics are a nice blend of coffee and dark chocolate. Slightly acrid and heavily roasted, with a mild creamy note. Drizzeled caramel and chocolate syrup come forward in the end. The mouthfeel is a bit spritzy and some overcarbonation keeps the brew from having any creaminess. Not a thick as I had hoped. The pallet is laden with dark chocolate and burnt caramel. A strong espresso note follows through along with a generous dose of roasted malts and a hint of smoke. Finishes slightly warming with a lingering bitter chocolate bite. Lacking a lot of character that is eluded to by the moniker "breakfast stout".

Bomber pours a big brown expansive foam ball with dark dark body and spotty lacing. It smells like a hand full of steel cut oats mixed with faint roasted malts. The over bubbly carbonation causes the beer to explode and punctuate the initial burnt malt, astringent malt and roasted malt notes. As the mushroom cloud of carbonation subsides the oatmeal twang, burnt malts and coffee all ride the flavor to the finish. The beer leaves burnt malts and oats into the after taste.

Meh. A very boring sweet stout. Thanks hopdog for sending it my way though! It is not bad by any means, but it does not differentiate itself from the loads of other stouts out there either in quality or innovation. Typical thin head, dark near-black color, roasted coffee, chocolate aroma. Taste is very much coffee and bitter chocolate; finishes slightly creamy, but the hoppiness of the beer really cuts into the creaminess of the beer, making the cream seem like a worthless pursuit. The flavors just do not all come together to create a great beer. Decent beer, but just decent.

22oz bottle aquired in trade. Poured a dark, deep brown (almost black) with red edges and an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of milk chocolate, roast, light vanilla, oats and very light coffee. Tastes of roast, vanilla lighter chocolate, and a light bitter coffee finish.
