Commercial Description:
Hoptown Oatmeal Breakfast Stout is not your typical oatmeal stout. Rich with chocolate and roasted barley malts, and an aggressive yeast strain, combined with loads of rolled oats creates an oatmeal stout with a creamy texture and a dry, hoppy finish. Great with or without eggs, bacon, and toast. Enjoy.

Aroma of malt. Some mild soy sauce hit me too. Deep black in head. Very small mocha head. Initially sweet, but then becomes bitter then mildly salty in turn. Very smooth and the bitterness lingers longer than any of the other flavors. Seems to me it has a lot less choclate flavor and sweetness than the best Sweet Stouts I have had. The salty flavor reminds me of some of the English style Imperial stouts.

Bottle: Double black color, rich tan head, thick lacing. Nose of lactic nugget, caramel (not the malt, the REAL stuff). Smoky and pleasent. The flavor is lightly salty and astringent but remains creamy, rich and roast. Hops don’t play much of a hand but some astringency mixes well with the molasses sweetness. Finishes creamy, lightly milky, tangy. Excellent.

Bottle Pours a very hazy dark brown with a modest light brown head. Nice persistant sheeting lacing. Aromas of dark rasted malts and some coffe notes as well. Nice roasted flavors and that characteristic silky oatmeal feel, but not as much as I hoped. Slightly thin I though and a smokey bitter trailer. A decent example of a favorite style of mine. Thanks Buch Dich for sharing.

Pure black color with small tan head. Aroma is malty, with chocolate, vinegar, vanilla, cream. Flavor is smooth, with coffee, dates, cream, a bit of sourness, and a dry, slightly bitter finish.

Beautiful dark Brown, near Black with Ruby edges. Dark cocoa, coffee & cereal, rich and complex. Light floral hops, sweet chewey chocolate, very tasty!

Pours dark brown black. Thin brown head that diminishes. Smells like roasted coffee with some sweetness. Tastes like coffee with some bitterness in the finish. Oily mouthfeel. This is my first oatmeal stout, not too bad.

Pours opaque black, medium brown head that dissapates rather quickly. Rich roasty aroma, with some coffee notes. Some lactic sweetness in the nose, which quickly drops and is met by a largely roasted malt flavor. The finish is more of the same, with a tinge of hop bitterness becoming detectable in the final whispers. Mouthfeel is full yet very smooth from the oat. The oat pantina also served to smoothen and blend the flavor characters. A nice oatmeal stout, but not my favorite.

Thanks to Enniskillen for this beer.

Poured black with a thick brown creamy head... very nice. Good aroma of slight roasted coffee and dark fruits. Taste is somewhat thin... a strong roasted bitterness with a dry hoppy finish. Not as sweet or smooth as it probably should be. Body seems somewhat overcarbonated. Some things here are done right, some not at all, and some in between, making for an overall very decent but not surprising stout.
