HopTown "Old Yeltsin" Russian-style Imperial Stout is a very strong dark beer. It is brewed with a combination of the finest two-row malts, water, yeast and hops. It has a rich roasty character and plenty of alcohol to warm you for the long Russian Winter. HopTown "Old Yeltsin" can be enjoyed by itself or it goes great with a variety of foods.

Sample at Barley Island tasting Jan 20, 2007 - Aroma is thick roasty dark malts, vanilla, coffee and soy sauce. Pours black with a thin head and decent lacing. Flavor matches aroma, very roasty and chewy, vanilla, and hops show up. Palate is sticky. A very tasty Imperial stout.

22 oz bottle, via dhlesq. Pours a clear black colored body under a very fizzy espresso like brown head that ran to the edges quickly. Quite a bit of active carbonation. Aroma is roasty and chocolaty with some coffee, caramel, alcohol, light lactose, smoke, and a little chalk. The flavor is roast, caramel, and licorice dominated up front, fading to a finish featuring alcohol, chalk, and caramel. This almost leans toward a Baltic Porter with all the caramel. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a slick oily texture. The carbonation is fairly soft and fine, which surprised me because of how fizzy the head was. This was alright, but not an especially good Imperial Stout. I need a drier roastier flavor.

Pours a dark brown/black with a small tan head. Aroma of smoke, coffee, and chocolate. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, and some vanilla. Lots of roasted smokey goodness. Pretty thin mouthfeel especially for the style.

Bomber from Bevmo; nose of coffee, cocoa, and a hint of smokiness; Opaque ebony with no real head, a few tan bubbles on the glass sides. Flavor is a cobination of nice hop bitterness, coffee, and chocolate, with the hops lasting into the finish.

Bottle: Courtesy of Styles. Aroma of black coffee, roasted grain, vanilla, and light chocolate. Pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small tan head. Quick chocolate and vanilla up front is quickly overtaken by roasted coffee. Roastiness then fades leaving more of a black coffee finish. A little thin for an Imperial Stout.

22oz. bomber. Black color with a small tan head. Mild lactic sourness to the aroma along with darkly roasted malts, coffee and dark fruits. Flavor begins mildly tart, with lots of roasted malts and coffee, ending with a lightly bitter hop finish. This beer was more like a big version of a dry stout instead of an Impy, but it was very good nonetheless.
