Commercial Description:
HopTown "Old Yeltsin" Russian-style Imperial Stout is a very strong dark beer. It is brewed with a combination of the finest two-row malts, water, yeast and hops. It has a rich roasty character and plenty of alcohol to warm you for the long Russian Winter. HopTown "Old Yeltsin" can be enjoyed by itself or it goes great with a variety of foods.

Opaque chocolate-brown body with a silky tan head. Aroma of roast, sweet dark malt, chocolate, and rum raisin. Nice rum raisin character in the flavor with a good balance between sweetness, roast, and bitterness. Solid imperial stout.

(Bottle at least 1.5 years old):

The Lure:
Oily soy amidst the sweet chocolate and roasted malts. Dryness is purported, along with shyness.

The Festivities:
The sweetness of molasses and soy gets somewhat cloying through the slick mouthfeel. Roasted malts offer little bitterness and dryness, this appears already tired after a little time in the cellar. I feel redundant, but there isn’t much more to say.

Transcendence:
Another day at the office.

Dark tan head. Dark, dark reddish brown body. Nice sweet creamy licorice aroma. Taste has a roasty metallic chocolate with raspberry. Pretty good imperial stout, some flavors seem a bit awkward.

Made about 20 mins from where I grew up, who knew? Black with a small light brown head. Roasty, spicey, sweet malt scent. Coffee, Soy Sauce, Black Pepper....WOW! Tangy yet sweet, mineraly with cofee and alcohol. A nice dessert beer!

Opaque, medium thickness and nearly no head. Smells good – chocolate and roasted malts, German chocolate cake, black licorice and butter. Flavor has a resin-ish tinge, some cocoa powder and red pepper. Flavor rounds out with the anticipated chocolate accents and a few dashes of instant coffee. Descent, but not spectacular. Thanks to 1FastSTi for sharing this.

Aroma of Licorice, chocolate, light coffee and some buttered cherries. Dark, dark black in color with a tan head. Flavor is like a buttery mix of licorice, cherry and coffee. A bit tart feeling. Creamy, but a bit thin for an I.S. Thanks to 1FastSTi for sharing.

A very nice Imperial Stout. Not too sweet and the alcohol content is barely noticeable. This is a dark brown/black brew with an aroma of syrup and sugar. One will taste a bit of chocolate and coffee. Recommended.

Pours a dsark black w/ a small well laced tan head. Smells of roasted malt lactose and little bitter hop. Well coated smooth light creamy palate. Flavor has a touch of an odd sourness hints of coffee and lots of roasted malt w/ a strange milkiness. Odd for the style as I dont’ want tart in my dark beers but still not bad.
