Commercial Description:
HopTown "Old Yeltsin" Russian-style Imperial Stout is a very strong dark beer. It is brewed with a combination of the finest two-row malts, water, yeast and hops. It has a rich roasty character and plenty of alcohol to warm you for the long Russian Winter. HopTown "Old Yeltsin" can be enjoyed by itself or it goes great with a variety of foods.

Pours opaqe black. Aroma is of burnt malt, coffee, and alcohol. Flavor is sweet, body is full. Good beer but I’ve had much better imperial stouts.

Poured a very dark brown. Coats the glass with a thin brown oily film. Roasted malty aroma smelled quite a bit like the seasoning they put on smoke house almonds. Flavor was sweet of roasted malt with just a slight soy sauce taste. Nice hop finish.

Pours black with a big brown head. Sweet molasses and dark chocolate aroma with some sweet hops. Very mild, dark chocolate and roasted malt flavors. A nice sweet hop finish. Just the right amount to cover the alcohol. Oily mouthfeel. Thanks Secret Santa!!

Super dark Cherry in color with no head. The nose is sweet molasses and some coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and even some hopiness coming thru.Nice complex brew with lots going on ,like a good Impy should have. Thanks to Sven,my SS this year.

Deep dark stout with a pungeant chocolate malt and hops aroma, restrained. Metallic chocolate, bitter yet pleasing with a nice hop finish. Some caramel comes out as beer warms up. Bought in San Fran summer 2004 (Sept. 2004)

12.10.04 Bomber bottle thanks to loweredsixth. Nearly black beer with thin tan head. Aromas are molasses sweet and sharpness is betrayed with a slight nasal burn from alcohol and hops. California style impy all the way, this brew is not letting me down. Deep and roasty, not much fruit. Plenty of coffee, caramelized grapefruit, burnt hazelnut. Could be fuller bodied for an imperial but the solid alcohol presence makes up for that pretty well. Very nice brew. Thanks, Joe!

black as any stout should be.chocolate small head.aroma is almost like a port wine, with a hint of sour grapefruit.when i drank it i thought it was a bit strange for an imperial stout.mixed flavors of cherries, wine, grapfruit, and some roasted malts at the end.it reminded me of a grandcru or barleywine, more than a stout.RE-RATE:9/17/2006:i think when i first had this i was a ratebeer rookie.i know can enjoy the complexity of this brew.my rating had been "upped"
