Smells of sweet bread and yeast. Hidden hops are masked well. Taste is slightly dry with an easy hop kiss. Finish dries out pretty quickly and leaves little sweetness. satan165 (592), River Grove, Illinois, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 15, 2009 Updated: Jan 16, 2009nose of sweet malts yet almost astringent and even slightly rotten. some aroma notes of near citrus, something a bit acidic. color is a very murky dark amber. flavor is malty but still balanced, hops are not pronounced but do well to maintain equilbirum, not an easy task for a beer this riddled with malt. mouthfeel is slightly syrupy yet not coating. Definitely hoppy for an amber ale, but has quite a bit of malt too. A little thin at times. Overall pretty tasty. Floback (335), Naples, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 6, 2008 22 ounce bottle re-gifted to me from my girlfriend’s grandfather. He claimed that it was from his son who lives in California, so I have no idea how long it’s been sitting in his fridge. However, the label on the bottle was worn and faded with age, so I anticipated this taste to be quite interesting. Poured a delicious-looking dark brown/amber body with two fingernails of tan head that, within 30 seconds, receded to a tan rim of froth. Beautiful tan lacing and a lovely aroma of piney hops, red fruits, and sweet caramel. Similar flavors with more caramel, subtle wood, some funky yeast, dark fruits, green apple, and a lack of hops character that the bottle label promised to give. Despite the lack of hops, this was a surprisingly great-tasting beer. This has surely been aged since the flavors, although definitely there, were smoothed out and refreshing. Full body and medium/full carbonation. Very good; age this brew if you can.
