Commercial Description:
Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel aged DOA on tap! First beer in our "single barrel" series. Incredible bourbon character. Limited release. Buffalo Trace Distillery is a distillery located in Frankfort, Kentucky producing bourbon since 1870 and stands as the oldest distilling site in the United States. It’s flagship bourbon is Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (introduced in August 1999). The distillery is located on what was once an ancient buffalo crossing on the banks of the Kentucky River in Franklin County. Buffalo Trace Whiskey is a tribute to the American bison that created paths followed by America’s early pioneers. This is the first beer aged in the barrel, and as a result, has much of the same aroma and flavors as the whiskey. Buffalo Trace Whiskey won a gold medal 2007 San Francisco spirits competion. The taste is pleasantly sweet and contains notes of brown sugar and spice that give way to oak and leather. 9.5% ABV, 16 Degrees Plato, 55 IBU

I tried 13 beers at Portland International Beer Festival, the beers I tried averaged 3 tickets each. This is one was only 2 tickets and one of only three that I would buy again! Not just a bourbon taste over a cheap beer, it’s quality all the way.

Draught. Poured caramel brown with medium white head. Aroma of bourbon, caramel and yeast. Rather flat flavour, some caramel but mostly the barrell, woody and oaky. Rather thin finish.

On tap at H.U.B. Colour... amber-copper. Nose... hoppy and slightly musty(?). Palate... Damn! 100 IBU’s?! Sure it’s not more?! Very sweet, mildly cloying, lots of caramel, piney hops, moderate booziness, plum pudding, vanilla and marshmallow.

On tap at Bailey’s Taproom on 9/7/09. Dark amber pour with a good head and aroma of plum, vanilla and of course plenty of bourbon. Flavor was nice and complex with nice (but not overpowering) whiskey booze, oak, vanilla and finished with warm alcohol. Yum.

Tap @ PIB... Poured a deep amber with a white head. Biscuity and pastry sweet malts on the nose. Soft, mild carbonation with buttery malt flavors and a bourbon-vanilla quality. Smooth finish with a leafy character.
