It’s pitch black with a nougat colored, creamy and lasting head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, light peaty smoke, coffee and licorice. The flavor has a light sweetness and notes of roasted malt, peaty smoke, licorice, light citrus, spruce, coffee and the finis is slightly dry and quite long with hints of ashes towards the end. Really nice!

Oct 28, 2009 500 ml bottle at Pikkulintu. Pitch black colour with tan head. Roasted malt and hint of smoke and coffee in the aroma. Dark chocolate, burnt malt and some liquorice in the flavour. Some hops noticeable in the aftertaste. Om nom.

Oct 27, 2009 Bottled at Old Bank, Turku. Black with a creamy tanned head. Strong wood chips, molasses and herbal notes in the aroma, burned malts, coal and liquorice. Flavor has hints of smoke, loads of herbal liquorice, mild pear, woodiness, a bit liqueur-like. Pretty sweet, molasses and espresso chocolate. Medium bodied, a tad oily, not that thick palate. A really good soothing Impy, though I’m getting some alcohol when warm.

Oct 26, 2009 At the Ølfestival, Esbjerg, Denmark 23-10-09. Soft sweet bitter liquorice nose with dark sugars and toffee. Big mouthfeel with plenty of liquorice and a touch of hedgerow fruit but all of this is laden down by a big bed of coffee and alcohol. The tongue is slightly numbed. Strength is apparent but smooth and the roastiness carries well. A7 A4 F7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Dry smoky burntness, a touch sweet. Dark, sharp berries, and a huge burnt taste. A touch of oily and ashy retronasals. Delicious coffee hints in the aroma later. Smooth palate, very rich, a touch of ashiness, but below the threshold where it would count as negative. This is very much like a Koff porter, but hoppier, and a touch thinner. Covers 10% very well.
