mcdav2154 (289), Germany Oct 5, 2009 Reddish brown body with a really thick cream colored head. Great lacing. Smell is roasted malt, nuts, and copper. Taste is different than other dunkelweizens I’ve had. Very nice bitterness that has notes of roasted malt, butter, and maybe walnuts/pecans. Medium carbonation. Full bodied. Top notch in my book. Smooth and fun to drink! rosenbergh (843), Helsinki, Finland Sep 21, 2009 500 ml bottle. From Hilden, Germany.
Clear reddish amber colour with small off-white head. Malty slightly buttery and bitter aroma. Quite bitter (English) like but with Pils-like bitter hoppiness. Slightly metallic. Well carbonated for a bitter. Refreshingly different for a German brew. rustychiles (997), Mesa, Arizona, USA Sep 11, 2009 Bottle in Dresden.
Pours a slightly hazed goldish caramel with a off white head. Aroma is caramel, bitter hops earthiness. Crisp and lively carbonation with a lightly bitter finish. Decent brew. Borresteijn (1347), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 22, 2009 On tap in Trier, as Hövels Schwarz. Clear amber colour, off white head. Gentle aroma of toffee and malts. Flavour is light bitter, toffee, light smoked malts, bit of salt in the light bitter finish. Light to medium bodied, prickly mouthfeel. Very nice beer, but not a dunkelweizen by far. shrubber85 (2832), Wallhalben, Germany Jul 25, 2009 Tap. Sweet toffee malt aroma. Dark amber with medium head. Light cherry toffee malt flavor with moderate hops finish. Nice beer but unlike any other dunkelweizen I’ve ever had - thought it was a Vienna by its appearance and taste. alassio (17), USA Jul 5, 2009 Trying to find truly worthwhile beers in northern Germany is a challenge, but this was a nice surprise. Bought at a large store where they have high turnover, it’s fresh, and It is creamy, rich, malt nectar, with a blast of hops on the finish that keeps it sharp and satisfying. Fantastic dark amber color and great head. A sweet sumptious little malt bomb. I’m drinking it in a snifter (all that’s handy) and it improves the view. JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium May 29, 2009 Towering creamy head, lasting, and fed by lively carbonated darker amber to brown beer, with mossy shine. Very fresh malt, as from the silo, bit of coffee milk and chalk. Lightly roasted malts taste, dry-herb & leafy finish, with a mounting touch of sweetness, ever so lightly buttery. Creamy MF from the head, rather well-bodied. Very nice, typical German beer, Dunkelweizen of the better kind. Seen the fact that it is 15yrs ago I visited the Dortmunder brewpub, I cannot tell if it’s the same - still... brewed at the big bro? I doubt. Dedollewaitor (3622), Odense, Denmark May 17, 2009 50cl bottle @ Flensburg, Germany. Pours dark amber with a creamy white head. Grassy and bready with slight hints of caramel. Medium bodied. Dry and quite crisp. OK
