(Draught at Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Dark amber colour with short, off-white head, leaving some lacing. Malty, slightly roasted nose with notes of toffee and chocolate. Malty, roasted nose with toffee, caramel, fudge and slight notes of hops in the rather short finish. Fairly dry. Carbonation making it slightly prickly. Definitely not a very bitter beer, but balanced with a rather nice taste.

Bottle. thanks Sebastian, this one has been ’the one that got away’ for quite a while now. Chestnut, big creamy golden head. Light bready and heather aroma. Medium to light body, honeyish dubdued malt, herbal hops, dry quick finish.

Quite dry and bitter, yet tasty. Nice mouthfeel and good carbonation. I was happy to find a local ale from NRW Germany. I can’t see a reason not to have more of these.

(draught at the Hövels brewpub, 5.0 % ABV) Clear and slightly dark amber colour with a firm off-white foamy head. Moderately sweet malty aroma with caramel and light fruity notes plus traces of hops. Rather sweet than bitter flavour, medium to light bodied. Caramel-malty taste with dense fruity tones, moderately bitter, dry and hoppy finish. Not overwhelming but quaffable (03.05.06).
