Onslow (174), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA Sep 30, 2009 Twelve pack from some Indiana liquor store. Deep dark pour from a 12 oz bottle. Light aroma dominated by roasted malt. Good flavor dominated by toasted, roasted malts. Not sweet, which is a plus. Not much to the finish though, and a rather thin palate. It’s nice to see this - gone are the days when Pabst, Stroh’s, and even Miller turned out bock beers in the spring. Nice to see one die hard sticking with tradition (even if its fall and not spring..) MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 16, 2009 Gift from my Wisconsin hook up. Thanks Jamie. I like Bocks. Brown pour looked good. Some burt dark malt, I like that. Mild bitter finish. It was ok. drowland (1337), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 25, 2009 Overall, not terrible, but it is quite watery for the style with a big hint of metal and minerals. noncaloric (601), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Aug 12, 2009 Pours a deep mahogany with a scant beige head. Aromas of tea, nut, and banana. Malty flavor, mostly resinous, slightly sweet, nut and tea are very much there, sweetness comes in the form of a slight caramel element and a bit of banana. The banana seems out of place here. Finishes with a husky grain finish. Flavorful but a bit of a mess. Medium body, drpimento (785), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Jul 27, 2009 Yack! I’ve had this lots over the years, but this time it got a major problem with butterscotch. I’ll try to get around it, but it ain’t easy. Served with a medium sized, off-white head and some lace. Color is a nice, not quite clear brown with dark red highlights. Aroma smacks me down wth that butterscotch - ugh. But, somewhere in there is some malt and a little chocolate, good malt. Flavor is BUTTERSCOTCH - BLAAAHH. Can’t finish it. Draft lines are clean here too. No more, pleeeeze! nuplastikk (1157), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 23, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a deep red-brown color with a big off white head. The aroma is sweet and malty and gets odder the further into the beer you get. Definitely a budget beer, a little thin on the palate. That being said, the taste isn’t half bad, considering some of the other trash that Minhas puts out. Somewhat shwarzy, somewhat dunkle-like. Never threatening world class qualities, this is way below par for the style, somewhat approaching acceptability. Skyview (3947), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Nov 2, 2008 On draught at the Old Fashioned restaurant in downtown Madison, Wisconsin as ’Old Fashioned House Brew.’ Pours a clear dark cola brown brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that dissipates nearly clean. Aroma of roasted dark malt, some caramel, a touch of corn and a hint of grassy hops. Taste is light to medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of roasted dark malt, some figs and a touch of caramel. Finish is slightly metallic with a quick crisp aftertaste. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Oct 17, 2008 Dark dark redish brown with a cream colored average head. Sweet malt nose. Caramel, light toast, some fruit. Light astringency and some slight cream. Creamy CO2 filled body, but not tons of viscosity. Fruity murky flavor. Earthy, astringent toast. A bit sweet, but not really malty or creamy as in the flavor. Let down after the first sip.
