Commercial Description:
Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by the Humboldt Brewing Company until their acquisition by Firestone Walker)

Clear copper body and small beige head that leaves minimal patches of lace. Subtle aroma of herbal hops and mild chocolate. Taste is chocolate and cola. Slight nuttiness and faint earthy and leafy hops. More of a brown ale than a spice or herb brew.

deep amber color with a small and quickly diminishing tan head. slightly malty coffee aroma. Taste is very watery, very lightly toasted malt with no hop experience to speak of. Uneventful :(

Dark cola color with a cola like fizzy head. Aromas were decent. Caramel, some spice. Lots of malt with some fruity aromas too. Flavor fell off a bit with some metal. More malt than hops. OK, but not excellent.

Beautiful full red with an almond head. Aroma of rich malt, almost like a robust honey. Amazing heavy malt nose. Reminds me of San Diego Pale Ales! Flavor is of a herbal, grassy hop. Tastes like a toasted crystal malt wort, without the sweetness. (Just a handful of grain) It is drier than I expected. The label alone is of course reason to try this one. Distinctive crystal grains throughout this one.

Another pick up from Firestone Bar. A simple, good drinking beer. Nothing special just a nice easily put drank brew. The smell was a bit weak. The best thing about this ale was the drinkability. The weakest thing was prob. the smell and look, very simple on both parts. I could easily put back a bunch of these.

Musty, malty aroma of an American Brown Ale - maybe a bit light. Dark reddish copper color with a substantial beige head. Starts a bit sweet, followed by a leafy, dusty vegy taste. Don’t think there is any hop. All weed. Actually a bit ongoing sweet in the finish. Sort of coats the tongue. It is what it is.
