Commercial Description:
Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by the Humboldt Brewing Company until their acquisition by Firestone Walker)

Tap at the Nut House in Palo Alto. Dark brown in color with an off-white head. Aroma is caramel malt, hops/hemp, and a little roast. Flavor is earth, grass, hemp, hops, caramel and roasted malt. Medium body with somewhat low carbonation. Pretty average overall.

Nose is sweet and hoppy. Dark amber brown pour with a small off white head. Mild hoppy citrus flavor with caramel overtones. It has a medium light body. Very easy drinkability. All around a decent session beer for anytime - very simple and easy to drink.

On tap. Brown pour, off-white head. Malt, light cocoa, earthiness, and some grain. Not very interesting.

Initial pour brought forth a near-chocolatey bocky aroma that wasn’t quite regained. Malty-bocky flavor with a rather watery palate.

Bottle shared by Ryan and Felicia...thanks! Pours an amber color. Aroma has tons of caramel malt, with some vegetal and spice notes and light hops. Flavor is malty and very light on the hops. I got high when I drank this...yeah not really. Peace dudes and dudettes.

Sampled from a 12-oz bottle during Dark Lord Day ’09 at table 2. Pours a semi-clear copper amber colored brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thin white ring and minimal lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, some citrus and flowery hops, a touch of roasted nuts and dry herbal spice. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation, flavors of roasted caramel malt, dry herbs, some dry bitter hops and a touch of bubblegum. Finish is semi-dry with a dry hop bitterness that slowly disappears.

Bottle from PP> Pours a deep woody copper brown- clear with a thin head. Aroma is herbal grassy, hemp-rope, leather with a toasty and light herbal caramel note. Crystal malt flavor with herbs, grass, ropes, and leather with some nuttiness and lemon in the finish. Not crazy about this, but it is easily drinkable.
