jbrus (4306), Delft, Netherlands Sep 6, 2006 Bottled. Aroma has some chocolat and a hint of licorce but that’s it. Cloudy, brown color, small beige head, good lace. Poured ugly though. I had to keep it 20cm above the glass to get some head. Light sweet, light roasted, hint of chocolat malts, bitter, even nasty bitter in the finish, watery.
FatPhil (2408), Espoo, Finland Jun 18, 2008 300ml bottle (Cracked Kettle)
Rich orangy brown, mouldy off-white head. Nutty dark-lager aroma, some alcohol. Carbonation in the mouth tickles the tongue slightly, but general mouthfeel is a little watery. Simple burnt malt base, some slightly sour notes sharpen it a little. Late bitter hops hang around for a while. The alcohol from the nose isn’t present in the taste, fortunately. Drinkable, but not very interesting. TBone (5172), Pori, Finland Jun 9, 2007 Bottled (BB 03/2007)
Hazy dark brown color, small steady coffee head. Sour aroma which has coffee, cognac, mud and plums. Sweetish nutty flavor - chocolate, plums, rye bread, toasted banana and wort. One of those "muddy" abbey dubbels, which are interesting but not very drinkable. altonbrownd (999), Amsterdam, Netherlands May 30, 2007 Bottle at home. Dark brown. Sour nose. Spicy and sweet taste. Fruits, like raspberry, caramel flavour and that of chocolates. Bitter finish. Bov (4744), Bienne, Switzerland Apr 3, 2007 from crackedkettle.com - hazy reddish-brown colour and absolutely no foam; aroma of pine needle and raspberry marmelade; very sweet with some tartness due to a high carbonation; sweetish finish with notes of cherries and dust Jukkabro (2468), Tampere, Finland Jan 16, 2007 Dark brown colored, little light brown head. Chocolate and sweet fruits in aroma, even mild banana there. Weird aroma for dubbel... Medium bodied. Flavor is dry with banana and chocolate, aftertaste lasts with banana and some grainy tones.
