Bov (4659), Bienne, Switzerland Apr 5, 2007 canned; a huge thank you to Per Samuelsson for this very rare beer ! - pale and hazy golden-yellow colour with suspect particules floating within; big creamy white head; dusty aroma with notes of olive and vinegar; creamy mouthfeel and gently sweet; light-bodied (particularly failing on the end); no bitterness; a touch of almonds in a short finish - I seriously doubt that this beer has no alcohol and not only because it would be the first one I would not have been able to detect from its aroma Ungstrup (11385), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 19, 2007 Can. A golden beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet with light notes of honey and flowers. The flavor is sweet with notes of cardboard, malt, brewing cereal, and some hops. Thanks to Per. sunevdj (1482), Copenhagen OE, Denmark May 17, 2007 Ølfestival 2007. Canned. Thanks to Per. Smells kind of sour. Pours a clear light yellow with a white head. Quite sweet with aromas of perfume and vanilla. Light bodied, short dry finish. madsberg (4374), Bangalore, India May 24, 2007 Canned. Pale yellow coloured. Clear. Light white head. Grainy and grassy in aroma and flavour. Really not much to offer. Is quite thin bodied. Is quite sweet in the end. Shit beer. Thanks to Per for sharing. omhper (10730), Stockholm, Sweden Jan 22, 2007 Canned. So, finally after investigating countless dead ends I finally found it - Bangladeshi beer! I got a reliable tip that Hunter Malt Beverage was available at the Bashundara City mall, and sure enough there it was: a can was sitting all alone on a counter in a fast food stand. Sadly it was empty, and the cashier sad it was impossible to find it. After some heated discussions and easing my pockets for half a month’s wage for a Bangladeshi worker (which sadly still is nothing in western currency), all of a sudden it was only almost impossible. So away he went. Half a decade later he returned with the goods. The can is a complete Foster’s rip off, and the text where it says "Alc 4%" is covered by a sticker saying "Non Alcoholic Beverage". Probably a spin off from this story: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/3537369.stm
So back at my hotel I poured the beer. It came out very pale yellow with extremely brief head. Oxidized papery aroma. Fairly sweet with light body and a touch of apples. At least it tastes like beer, and not wort, albeit it tastes like really bad industrial beer made from only rice and no hops. Oh well, I’m happy anyway with my find.
