Pours a dark red maroon, with a small off white head. Smells very rich and malty, almost syrupy. The flavor really engendered that description as it was very syrupy and very malty. The alcohol was overapparent at times and didnt seem to mesh well at all. No real semblance of balance here whatsoever. Just too sweet, with nothig else going on. Color me disappointed.

Big thanks to Matt7215 for sharing this 1997 vintage! Hazy amber-brown with an off-white head, some retention, good lacing (impressive for an 11 year old). Big boozy aroma with a little salt toffee. Boozy flavour that’s smooth, nice breadyness, brown sugar, toffee. Alcohol is certainly warming. It’s well-attenuated with some residual sweetness, though the alcohol leaves a drying finish. It’s very drinkable for its weight.

Aged aroma of richness and alcohol. It’s medium brown, and very smooth.ABove average mouthfeel. A nice one.Yes this is the heller bock no longer produced but it is here and so here are my notes, as Matt7215 has shared with me his find.

12 oz bottle shared with sammy and hyde. my bottle from a trade with jjpm74. thanks john for the opportunity to try this rarity. this was last brewed in 1997 so its quite old. pours deep maroonish brown with big carbonation bubble but almost no head. lots of protein chunks. the nose was huge and malty, very much like a brandy. flavours were big and bold, with great malty character. dark fruits like raison and fig. smooth, a little boozy and definantly showing its age. very good brew, im glad i got to try this one, thanks john!

thanks to jjpm74 for the trade; no indications of vintage so I suppose it was the last one (1997) - pours a fully cloudy reddish-brown colour without head; hugely complex aroma showing notes of portwine, brownies and nuts; very sweet, full-bodied with a low carbonation, slightly oily, very long malty and nutty finish with notes of cognac and a big warming alcohol kick - the worthy little brother of Samichlaus

Very big thanks to jjpm74 for the bottle. Looks very, very good. The beer in the glass is very dark for a heller bock. Very alcoholic aroma. Starts very strong, breathtaking. Reminds me of choclate for a short moment, turns then fruity. The finish tastes like christmas herbs. An incredible good beer! Thanks for this experience, jjpm74!

From a great trader. Cloudy brown body with faint head. Caramel nose with alcohol bite. Sour chocolate and yeast in the body.

Sampled from bottle shared by brewfiend. Pours a semi-hazy brownish amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head. Aroma is a bit sourish, light malt, yeast and a touch of honey spice. Taste is medium bodied, lightlly carbonated with a tart fruity citrus, toffee, and honey flavor. Finish is slightly tart with a dusty cellar texture and afertaste. Possible infected? Interesting tough.
