crystal clear yellow, frothy quickly disapating head, light spicy malt aroma, surprisingly rich malt flavor with lots of character and mild hops, only a slight ester hint to the underlying power, lasting malt finish

Pours a clear copper with a thin fast-fading tanish head. Nose is pure sugar plums. Body has some nice complexity, but is a little thin. Mostly caramel sugar and alcohol. This might be a little past its prime. Definitely packs a punch though.

thanks to jjpm74 for the trade; no indications of vintage so I suppose it was the last one (1997) - pours a fully cloudy reddish-brown colour without head; hugely complex aroma showing notes of portwine, brownies and nuts; very sweet, full-bodied with a low carbonation, slightly oily, very long malty and nutty finish with notes of cognac and a big warming alcohol kick - the worthy little brother of Samichlaus

Bottle courtesy of DYCSoccer17. Pours reddish brown with a thin ring of white bubbles. Smells of dark fruit, spices, buttery and there’s an underlying sourness present. Tastes of dark fruit, sugar, splashes of spice and pepper. Mouthfeel is thick and low on carbonation. Finish is spicy.

A true heller bock. Wonderful golden straw color and white thick head. You can smell the malt right out of the bottle. Thick and chewy with great malt sweetness and underlying warming alcohol. A great winter warmer.

Head is initially small, fizzy, off-white, fully diminishing. Body is hazy medium amber, dense tiny particles, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (molasses, caramel), with a note of oxidation/cardboard, light note of peach. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation, moderately alcoholic. For the same reason I dislike Samichlaus, I dislike this...very dull aged/oxidized aroma and totally unbalanced/unrelenting sweetness. Undrinkable.

Sampled from bottle shared by brewfiend. Pours a semi-hazy brownish amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head. Aroma is a bit sourish, light malt, yeast and a touch of honey spice. Taste is medium bodied, lightlly carbonated with a tart fruity citrus, toffee, and honey flavor. Finish is slightly tart with a dusty cellar texture and afertaste. Possible infected? Interesting tough.
