Commercial Description:
Samichlaus, which means "Santa Claus" in Swiss German, is brewed on December 6th, naturally aged before bottling, and distributed one year later. This beer was once the world's strongest beer and has been listed in The Guinness Book of Records. Unlike other lagers, it should be stored at cellar temperatures in order to enhance its definite ale-like qualities.
** This beer has been discontinued (last brewed in 1996).**

Not at all pleased with this. Too strong and thus a too strong taste of alcohol. Not enough spice to make the taste undergo a change from alcoholic to sweet/bitter. Seems like a rather bland wine...

hey_kevin opening a 1995 vintage bottle at his iowa city gathering. aromas of brown sugar, caramel, and booze. very sweet taste, very good though. Like Duane said, some slight oxidation was apparent, but this was still a good beer.

95 vintage. Extremely good beer. Whisky and sour fruit in the aroma. Whisky in the flavor, with a sherry like dryness on the palate. Excellent.

Thanks, RAYBOY01, for reminding me that I had this at Delilah’s.

Vintage 2003: Thick like molasses and smelling like molasses and alcohol, this is a creamy hot drink. Sweet malt, alcohol, dark dried fruits, dark brown sugar... very nice. The finish is a sticky sweet malt afire with alcohol. I like.

Huge alcohol nose invites me to drink in sips only. VERY sweet with tons of brown sugar or even burnt candy sugar...caramel, dried fruit, raisins, etc.

1996 Vintage. Dark brown color. Small to medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is brown sugar and molasses, very sweet. Full bodied dopplebock. Very sweet. Lots of brown sugar and molasses. Lots of dark fruit flavors as well. Lots of alcohol as well. Sort of all mixed together into a very sweet, very smooth, high alcohol beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and very smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with some alcohol. Thanks to KP for sharing this one.

Molasses, leather, sherry, figs, dates and beans in the aroma that is quite complex but obviously past prime. Clear mahogany body with a very low, white, fully diminishing head. Full on alcohol in the flavour with plenty of sherry and marzipan and notes of figs, dates, molasses, raisins, leafy tobacco and cocoa powder. Biscuity, fig newton sweet aftertaste. Medium body with strong alcohol warming and fairly prickly carbonation. Bottle (1990 vintage) sampled at DenverLogan’s GABF 2005 wrap-up.
