Deep hazy brown body with a surprising small ring of a head. Aroma was very inviting - nutty, smokey, caramel, sherry like feel. Flavor was quite smooth, nutty, caramel, smokey malt, slightly sweet. Perfect mouthfeel. I loved it. Now I just need to find some more. wetherel (1641), Encinitas, California, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 30, 2007 Tasted from 1987 bottle from cquiroga!!!! at Alesmith’s Sept 2007 BA release. Did I mention the bottle was from 1987 and is 20 years old! Let me add another exclamation! Near the end of the tastings, so not the optimal time to rate. From notes: Dark fruits. Incredibly awesome oxidation. Dark color. Sweet heavenly. I understand why people make it their desert island beer. I love sweet beers, so maybe that is why it appeals so much to me. rickgordon (3332), Göteborg, Sweden

Dark amber colour. Vineous aroma, bit of chocolate, plum, sherry. Clearly oxidized but without being all to disturbing. Nice flavour and mouthfeel with prickly alcohol. There are notes of prune and candi sugar/caramel in all the sweet, bit oaky maltiness.

Aroma stinka of sherry, vinous and woody, alchol is crealy there but a sweet vinousness holds it back. Taste is a similar bag of tricks, nicey drinkable, and could probably be kept for another 10-15 tears before it becomes completly useless. M0RHI (1067), Luxembourg, Luxembourg
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 3, 2007 Bottle, 1985 vintage, RBESG Grand Tasting, Glasgow 07. Nose is slightly oxidised, some plummy tones, and plenty of dried fruit, some apricot and raisiny tones. Rummy with notes of woodiness, slightly stale in the mouth, but in the palate is sweet, quenching and coating with lasting raisin tones. Rather good. KnutAlbert (3217), Oslo, Norway
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Sep 1, 2007 Vintage at RBESG. Strong aroma of dried fruit, prunes and raisins. The alcohol is stillt here, but this beer never had the complexity for aging in the first place. Too sweet.
