Commercial Description: The Alt Ale has a slight aroma of caramel, is slightly dry on the palette without being overly bitter, and finishes with a wonderful caramel/malty aftertaste. It has very little hop aroma or flavor, but a characteristic hop bitterness that counters the residual sweetness of the Munich malt, and it is well-attenuated with a light to medium body. The overall impression is clean, crisp and flavorful. It has a beautiful deep copper color with a nice white head. And it has a sturdy complex German maltiness with a wonderful hoppiness that brings everything into balance. It is a very drinkable beer with a big, intense flavor profile, but neither sweet nor unusually alcoholic. “Alt” is German for “old,” meaning simply that it is top-fermented the old way.
Düsselfdorf Style Alt Ale is available in draft only and is best served at 45°F-50°F.
On draught at the brewery. A dense gold color with a light/medium body. An even malty dry/sweet flavor balance with a mellow malty flavor and clean, dry finish. A reasonable attempt.
