ARMed (423), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 8, 2008 This is a cross between a sour red ale and a kriek. The flavor has a slighly sour fruity cherry flavor with a hint of smokiness. Extremely well rounded balanced beer that has a exceptional delicate vinous aroma and taste. The wine like character and deep reddish brown color could trick an amateur into thinking that this is a poorman’s wine concoction.
This has all the chrarcteristics I enjoy in a beer and believe it would go great with and red meat entree. wacho (43), Izegem, Belgium May 1, 2008 Updated: May 7, 2008het donkerbruine succesbier van brij Strubbe heeft een lichte fruitige smaak waarin ook de rijpherid van de foeders merkbaar zijn. Good balance of sweet and sour. Full body and good lasting taste. Not too much alcohol, which makes it go down easily. Nice dark red colour, not too frothy. Makes a good aperitif. PhillyBeer2112 (1861), Orange Park, Florida, USA Apr 17, 2008 Deep dark burgundy color. Fruity cherry aroma with touches of blackberry. Fairly sour with a good tart whack and a berrylike fruit rounding it out. Clean finish. Slightly vinous with a mild oakiness as a complement. All around really nice. I’m happy with this.
