Commercial Description:
Old sour beer is blended with sweet young beer before bottling to create a beer with a sour nose, sweet taste, and a slight sour aftertaste. Ichtegem’s goes great with shrimp or can also be used to marinate various kinds of meat in.

Clean aroma, hints of cherries and dark berries. Pours reddish brown with a dense off white head that doesn’t last long. Sweet malts caramelly, fruity, but trace hints of a sourness, very sugary. They need to up the old beer and lower the young in the blending. I wouldn’t say its a sour ale at all.

(Draught on 2008-05-20) Reddish brown and hazy. Slightly sweet and malty nose. Sugary palate. Fruity. Slighty sweet. Sourness especially in aftertaste. Lambic-like features.

Bottle. Brown-red body with a begie colour. Aroma is from strawberries, candy, sweet malt and some cola. Flavor is sweet, earthy, colamalt and some red fruits. Oalate is quite big and round.

25 cl bottle, via jbrus. Pours an amber body with a slight ruby tint under a fizzy beige head that faded rather quickly. The nose is lots of wet sweaty grains with a touch of oxidation and cooked vegetal notes. The flavor is rather grainy and tired with no tart or sourness to speak of. There’s an unwelcomed caramel sweetness on the finish actually. Long lingering cooked celery flavor late on in the finish. Mouthfeel is too sweet and cloying for the style with moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, one of the worst Oud Bruins that I’ve had. It’s weird that their Grand Cru version is so much better.

Bottled (BB 09/2009)
Dark ruby brown color, small tan head. Aroma of vinegar, chocolate, iron, caramel and dark fruits. A bit carbonated. Caramelly (candy sugar, brown sugar), some dark malts. As Oud Bruin beer should be more tart than this is, only some sourness in the afteraste. Overall very sweet, a bit too watery.

250ml bottle (BelgianShop)
Dark brown, small tight head. Musty earthy aroma, a little dusty. Sweet brown malts. Where’s the oud? Slight hint of woodiness, but too sweet overall. Sticky because of that, and leaves me needing a drink.

Bottled. Weird aroma. Initially old socks, then cheese, blue cheese. I’ve had pizzas that smelled like this. Taste sweet, not very full, with a bitter oaky finish. I like oud bruins, but wouldn’t order this in a bar.

Bottle shared by BeastieFan2k. Sludgy, plywood aroma, light toast and a touch of chocolate. Little sour to be found. Flavor has more woodiness, a touch of honey, maybe a bit of clover. Decently complex but just not very good.
