Commercial Description:
Old sour beer is blended with sweet young beer before bottling to create a beer with a sour nose, sweet taste, and a slight sour aftertaste. Ichtegem’s goes great with shrimp or can also be used to marinate various kinds of meat in.

Appearance is brown with almost no head. Aroma is sour apples. Flavor is sour fruit mainly apples. It tastes fairly close to a cider. Palate was a little thin and tart. This is not very complex but I enjoyed it.

Bottled (my Belgian rating #700). Deep reddish brown colour with brown foamy head. Aroma is fruits, earth and some acidic notes. Flavour is really sour malts, fruity hops and licorace. Quite pleasant and wellbalanced brew. Could be a bit more sour.

25 cl bottle, hazy mahagony color, small quickly diminishing beige head with proper lacing. Lightly sweet taste, with oak flavour. a bit sour taset comes in the finish.

0.25 l bottle. Reddish brown color with tan creamy head. Sour, fruity, salty and acetic aroma. Sweeter and slightly sour flavor with licorice, toasted malt as well as some old vinous notes. Pleasant and mellow.

A dense, dark pour reminiscent of Sprecher’s Bavarian Black with a persistent, slightly creamy head’ pervasive notes of berries, yeast, and chocolate. The actual flavor is surprisingly tart and tangy with punctuations of rye and pear; a thin mouthfeel and great deal of fermentation-like effervescence. Oud Bruin would do best as simply a sipping beer, but if you must pair something with it, keep it simple: Ridderost or maybe a Port Salut.

Dark brown, reddish shine. Yellowish, creamy head. Lactic acid, vineous, oakwood, fruity. In the taste, a kind of artificial sweetness, amazing as the background is quite OK, with the right acids, woody-vineous, old wood-like flavours you expect from the style. Sweetness is cloying, and impares the refreshing possibilities. Medium-full. It loses all the points on the added sweetness. Shame.

from belgianshop.com - clear ruby-brown colour with a little but stable creamy beige head; aroma of wood and sour cherries, creamy mouthfeel, sweet with a hint of sourness; the finish is vinous and caramel - subtle

250ml bottle from Bier Tempel, Brussels. A very pleasant and enjoyable beer. Softly carbonated. Gently sweet and malty like a fresh, good quality malt loaf. Chocolate notes. Very little in the way of bitterness, and nothing tart or sour. A well grounded and nicely balanced ale. Understated and quite moreish.
