| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 8, 2005 Jet black body with a thick lid of dark tan bubbles. After the vanilla stout, this has no nose at all, perhaps a hint of yeast and dry grain. Mild sweet roasted malt flavors meld with a mild Fuggles(guess) hops. Smooth and drinkable. A session stout. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 9, 2007 On draught at the City Lounge in Cudahy, Wisconsin. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a fast dissolving tan head that leaves behind a fine film and no ring or lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malt, some vanilla and a touch of oatmeal. Taste is medium bodied, very light carbonation, a little on the watery side with a hint of oatmeal, dark chocolate and roasted dark malt. Finish is watery, light, with a dry roasted malt aftertaste. Could use a little more texture for a stout. Beerlando (2351), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 8, 2008 Updated: Oct 9, 2008Pours an extremely dark mahogany, showing hints of chestnut brown at the edges when backlit. A smooth, foamy tan head shrinks considerably, but maintains a solid blanket for the entire duration. Thin, jagged lines and random spots of lace mark the glass. The aroma is mostly roasty, with toasted oatmeal, hints of vanilla, black chocolate malts, and notes of espresso. There are some indiscernible dark fruits in there if you search hard enough, as well as some scorched caramel. Flavors follow suit, oatmeal lending a smoothing quality to the choco-coffee-caramel concoction. There’s some earthy hop bitterness on the back end, with just a hint of a metallic mineral note. The mouthfeel is a little weak for the style, with a lively carbonation that isn’t too overbearing. Overall, it’s a nice enough little stout, but nothing outstanding. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 3, 2005 Updated: Sep 8, 2005Slight rerate - originally gave it a 1 for flavor, which was an oversight, as it’s not that bad. Nevertheless, the original review... Smells are typical of most oatmeal stouts: oaty, sweet and mild; chocolatey and coffee-like. Tastes are as expected as well, very middle of the road: sweet and roasted. Beer is somewhat thin and watery. esjaygee (1578), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 16, 2008 Updated: Apr 11, 2009Dark brown with mahogany highlights and an airy tan head that collapses into a thin layer for most of the duration. Aroma of roasted malt, oatmeal and chocolate. Taste of roasted malt, chocolate, oatmeal with a roasty bitter finish that doesn’t last too long. Smooth body is perhaps a touch on the thin side and it could use a little more flavor.
