Beerlando (1352), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 21, 2008 2007 vintage bomber. The body is a clear, dark golden-amber color with a quick, foamy, cream colored head. Random wet spots are scattered about the glass. The aroma shows sweet and malty notes of golden raisons, brown sugar, dates, and hints of hazelnuts and candied pecans. Bread pudding makes an appearance also. The flavor is again quite sweet, with overly ripe golden fruits and fresh nuts covered in brown sugar showing strong. There’s a touch of lactic cream, as well as some very bready, Belgianesque yeast notes. Lightly peppery floral hops lend just a touch of bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium-full and creamy, but the finish is overly sweet and cloying. This is not really my style, but it is decent. A little less sweetness would improve things greatly. WeeHeavySD (1865), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bomber I got in Dallas in an in person Trade. 2006 Vintage. Porus orange with a 1 finger tan head. The nose is full of vanilla and its rather pleasent The taste is sweet with some caramel and nothing. It feels like there should be something more here but there isn’t it feels like its missing something. ansermadide (236), Kyle, Texas, USA May 11, 2008 Updated: Oct 5, 2008(22oz bottle at home from HEB on February 11, 2008; from tap at the brewery on October 4, 2008) I like me a strong old ale, and this one really isn’t too shabby, coming from a small Austin-based brewery. Sold in 22oz bottles in the Austin metro. And the coolest part is you can meet Jasper (the beer’s namesake) every frist Saturday at the brewery. Pours a hazy amber/orange with minimal head. Sweet and malty with hints of spice/fruit. Almost reminds me of a lighter, sweeter barley wine. Could use a little work, but not bad for the age of the brewery. This was the 2007 vintage - from what I remember, it seems a little better than the 2006 vintage, but it’s hard to tell if it’s just that I’ve adjusted to it.
