Good strong body with a pleasant roasted grain flavor. Spent the better part of the afternoon with this one. Next time I’m in Philly this is a priority stop! TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA

Pours to a jet black color, with a thick, creamy, tan head, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is very nice, with lots of good dark chocolate, sweet malt, and fruity estery aroma of black currant. The palate is soft, silky, and creamy, with good flavors of chocolate, lightly roasted coffee, and estery flavor of currant. This beer finishes with more good dark chocolate, and coffee flavors up front, then ends with a slightly bitter sweet dark chocolate flavor that lingers. A very creamy, and delcious, sweet stout. Makes for a nice beer to enjoy at the brewpub, and an ideal match with the deserts on the menu. My favorite of all the Independence beers I tried. obxdude10 (1559), Pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA

The taste was roasted and dry with coffee and nuts. Light, drinkable and good. My favorite of the four beers they had online. egajdzis (3626), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 29, 2004 Nitro at the brewpub. Poured opaque black with a tight tan, creamy, head and nice lacing on the glass. Sweet chocolate, roasty, and marshmellow aroma. Roasted and toasted oats, sweet chocolate and anise in the taste. Mouthfeel was milky and creamy with very light carbonation. By far the highlight that this brewpub had to offer last night. XO (52), New Jersey, USA

Very long-lasting nitro head with plenty of lacing. It’s brewed with milk sugar and malted oats; 5.0 ABV. I enjoyed it! xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA

Very nice looks black with a very tight creamy light brown head, lots of lace. Flavor is perfect mocha, a smooth, milky blend of coffee and chocolate, and sweet. palate is smooth but slightly watery. Nice beer, enough to give me some faith in this brewer. Braudog (3766), Dayton, Ohio, USA
