A black beer with a 1/4 inch tan head. Smells like chocolate cough syrup and smoke, but in mostly a good way, very interesting indeed. I think it,s made with fig or some other odd, dark fruit. Taste is dark fruit, chocolate alcohol, bitter, alkaline, honey, just kinda weird but intriguingly good somehow. I don’t wanna like it, but I do. Denial is the first stage afterall. Mouthfeel is like skin milk... wants to be thicker but isn’t. Finish has that dark fruit (fig) that dominates. Uhmm, ¡loco!

Had this on tap at Daddy’s Sports Grill on 6th Street. Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head and very little lacing. Funky herbal and spicy aroma. My first impression during the first sip was... "what is that flavor"? Fortunately, the bartender is very friendly with the 2 person brewing operation at Independence and he clued me in to the Turkish coffee and cardamom that I just couldn’t place. Texture is a little thin for the style but considering the 101 Texas temps, a thinner beer isn’t such a bad thing. Independence only distributes within range of their 1 delivery van so don’t look for this one outside of the Austin area.

Pours watery dark brown with little in the way of head. Smell is very odd. Strange fruity, chocolatey smell with an unpleasant chemical aroma. Taste is equally as bad with a thin, chemically, roasty sourness and a drying mouthfeel. I found it hard to find anything positive about this beer...
