Commercial Description:
A Kolsh beer style, crystal clear and golden with tiny bubbles. This beer stands out in a tall cold glass. Medium/light body with a wheat malt fraction, Shoal Draft possesses a faint floral aroma that rises from the glass. A slice of lemon enhances the citrus notes of this fine premium beer.

Amazingly, most raters hated this brew and I loved it! The aroma is malty (for a kolsch) and delicious. The body is quite drinkable and delectable - bready malt with no sign of bitterness. The only bummer is the difficulty getting much head on it. Possibly as good as Reissdorf Kolsch.

Had a tart vegetable crispness with notes of hops...refreshing to say the least.

Like the Amberjack - Bottle. Not sure if they are brewing this again or they found some in a warehouse somewhere. I remember this years ago when there were no kolsch brews to be found anywhere, so it was a pleasant change of pace. Lightly hazed straw color with a white head that fades rather quickly. Sweet wheat and pale malts lightly detected by the nose. Only a faint wardering of floral hops. Floury bread flavors (think potato bread). Light floral flavors also welcome. Not a bad Kolsch.

Clear gold, thin white head. Honey and toasted malt aroma with some noble hops. Full bodied, clean. lightly sweet and malty. Tangy with a bit of hop flavor. Clean finish with some lingering spicy hops on the tongue. Not bad.

Seeing no reviews for the last 16 months makes me wonder... why does my local store have this beer in stock?<P>And reading the reviews below do not inspire confidence... "bait shop"... "broccoli"... "potato chips... celery"<P>Here goes... my first Kolsch.<P>Pours a nice clear darker gold with a thin white head. Bubbling reveals a somewhat viscous appearance. Aroma... sweet malt, mild hops. First sip - a touch flat / water, with a taste of... hmm... mild citrus, light malt. Trying to nail down a flavor, I could see how their lemon suggestion would ’enhance’ its mild flavor - but you shouldn’t have to add stuff to make a decent beer taste better! Overall, it’s drinkable, and could be refreshing on a hot day. Frankly, I’ve had worse beers... I’m not discouraged with this beer, but I won’t be picking up one of those sixers at my local store either, unless someone wants one in trade... Bottled February 5, year unknown...

Not my favorite Kolsch, but certainly crisp and refreshing.

Pours a clear darker hue of gold with a moderate white head. Aroma is of sweet malts and some grassy hops. Taste is light with some toasted malt, sweet malts and a slight bitterness on the finish. Drinkable

Kölsch - One of those styles that I am trying to get a handle on - nice to see a somewhat local brewer trying to tackle this difficult and underappreciated style. Dark golden color, slightly murky, slight white head. Aroma was off, it reminded me of glue and over yeasted baking bread - grows on you after awhile. Mouthfeel is sticky and buttery. Flavor has some freshly baked bread qualities to it with a heavy dose of yeast - not bad - but not thirst quenching. Quite chewy. Not as refreshing as other Kölsch’s I have had - seems more suited to winter. Mark me unimpressed, but willing to give it a B+ for effort.
