Pours dark brown with a rocky, off-white head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (nutty, toffee, toasted grain), light hops (dry grass), average yeast (dough, earth) with notes of cola and dates. Medium bodied, oily texture, average carbonation, and an astringent finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness. Lagunitasfan (436), San Diego, California, USA

His buddies have passed this beer around for a couple of years as a joke. They were thrilled when I really wanted to crack it. My wife threw away my notes, so this is from memory. Dark with red highlights. Off white creamy head. Nose was dark fruit, brown sugar, and malt. Mouth was sweet and round. Weak, however in the finish. Enjoyable, but not special. brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 16, 2009 Pours dark mahogany with barely translucent edging. A half inch head of off white fizzled away quickly making way for a placid surface and a few dots of lacework.
Aromatics are promishing with fresh, doughy malt, a bit of chocolate, and raisins.
Slightly sweet with caramel overtones.
Thinnish mouthfeel and light bodied.
Some light malt, hints of chocolate and caramel, and a trace of warming alcohol on the palate.
A trace or raisins and toffee quickly follow through before a quick finish.
Finishes with light malt and pretty much non offensive.
This one drinks like a "Dopplebock-light".
Nothing really to detract besides lack of flavor.
Thanks to SacodeToro for the bonus brew!

Finger thick, tight bubbled head. The nose is roasted malt and dark fruits along with some light chocolate notes. The flavor is the same and additional caramel and molasses. Quite smooth, especially considering the %. Clean dry finish. Kind of surprised at the low score. Guess I got an good bottle? fly (1332), austin, Tejas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Dec 26, 2008 Okay. Not as rich as I would have expected. Will say that the alcohol is exceptionally well hidden as is most of the flavor. If the intention is to get lobotomized, I can do that on my own and have done well over the many years. As for crafting a beer with distinct and enjoyable character, this has a way to go. Not bad at all, but stilll lacking as a whole. riversideAK (2727), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 15, 2008 Brown pour with no head. The aroma is of chocolate and some dark malts. Pretty light aroma actually. A touch of dark bread, chocolate, and a little sulphur in the flavor. Very, almost unbelievably thin for the 10.8% claim. I guess it drinks well then. patrick767 (2033), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Oct 24, 2008 bottle - Pours deep amber with a big, fluffy white, long-lasting head. The aroma is mainly of sweet malt with a touch of fruit. The flavor is sweet malt and dark fruit in a nice combination. How they managed to make a ’’big beer’’ come out watery, I don’t know, but unfortunately they did. That’s the main drawback here. Otherwise it’s pretty tasty. bsierra (213), Vista, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2008 Bottle from whole foods, San Diego. Aroma is sweet malt, not very impressive in the nose. The beer is dark and sweet. Alcohol content is completely hidden. Its very thin, and like some have said, I can’t believe that the alcohol can be this high in a beer this thin. Drink it if you want an easy way to get hammered, otherwise leave it alone.
