Jet black, no head. Loads of aromas - coffee, fruity esters to the fore. Pleasant carbonation. Some blue cheese, then a huge, but gentle wave of coffee. Hints of banana accompany. Finish is pure coffee, rich and roasty, but with no astringency at all. Damn - words can’t do this justice. The only tweak I’d make would be to make the body a bit thicker, and have it raise a head, then it would be utterly stunning. Beer of the festival for me.
hallinghansen (62), Odense SV, Denmark Dec 20, 2008 Bottle. Black body with a brown head. Aroma is smoked malts. Taste is smoked malts and liqourice. Good beer. lassem (175), Copenhagen, Denmark Dec 12, 2008 pours a very dark or almost black with a nice caramellioc-brown head. A rather quite but smoky nose with malts and english laqurice. The taste is fresh with a disappointing waterish mouthfeel. I taste laquirice, burned smokymalts - like italian countryside kitchens - rather singlestringed with bitter afternotes. odgaard (41), Skyum, Thisted, Denmark Dec 11, 2008 50 cl. bottle. Black, with thick brown head. Smell: Not much, but I sence smoke. Taste: Complex with smoke, coffee, wheat, no sweetness, Medium co2. Very easy to drink for this type of beer. Good one. pours black, nice thick brown head.
aroma is faint coffee, or roasted sometging. also some boiled eggs, butter, sweetness (brown sugar or perhaps brown suger and faint caramel)
flavor is delicately roasted stuff, delicately smoked stuff. brown sugar, dark chocolate (faint), very easy drinking for this kind of beer. still full and with lots of flavors.
overall wird and starange but well crafteed mix between a smoked, a stout and a wheatbeer. round and full, easy to drink, but with many diverse flavours to explore. Dango (26), Snekkersten, Denmark Oct 16, 2008 Strong smokey licorice in the nose. Pours beautifully black with strong dark head. Taste also has smoke and licorice but also some chocolate and bread. "Hvede" means wheat - and I did not read the backside label - so I did not know I was looking at a stout. Nice surprise.
